#6 in Coaches Poll/#8 in AP

Agree...8 about right for me. With this team you really don't know what you're going to get. Lack of depth this time of year can show its head too.

This same point could be made for pretty much every other team in the country except maybe Duke and Houston right now and neither of them are facing the type of schedule that the SEC teams have been.

AP isn't really a big part of seeding...

We're 5th still in NET ranking & KenPom.

In NET ranking:
Bama is 6th
St. John's is 17th
Michigan State is 11th

Of course something hilarious, Duke is now #1 in NET ranking, AP and KenPom.


I do find it really odd that despite having more wins and owning the head to head Bama in the AP eyes is ahead of us...they went 1-2 to end the year compared to our 2-1.

To be fair, though, neither Louisville nor Illinois were ranked at the time Duke beat them and Arizona in no longer ranked now, at least not in the AP.

So which are we going by, then or now?

Inaccurate? Yes. Wildly? Absolutely not.

Isn’t the number of ranked teams they’ve beaten “3”? It’s not that wild when you compare the number of ranked victories by The top 10 ranked SEC programs is twice as many.

Auburn, Illinois, and Louisville. (I missed that Illinois moved in while Arizona dropped out).

Losses to Clemson, Kansas (unranked), and Kentucky. None of which are top 10 teams.

I mean, that’s pretty off base relatively speaking lol

We ALL know it, but we do not know the reason why, sports writers hate Tennessee.

TN baseball is undefeated and the ESPN article calls us "other SEC teams". We are the raining NCAA World Series Champions for the love of GOD!

I tend to go by end of year rankings myself. I know on broadcasts they tend to use time of the game rankings. On the ESPN site, it shows ranking at the time of the game when looking at a teams' schedule. Going by that metric, Tennessee has 8 ranked wins this season. Going by current rankings, it would be 6.

Number of wins are not a factor in college basketball. If that were the case Drake would be #1 in the country right now. It’s all about who you played and who you beat, and Alabama’s win at Auburn is one of the two best wins in the country this year, Florida’s win at Auburn being the other. And the fact that it happened two days ago lends itself to how the writers vote.

We aren't dropping to a #3 seed.

For the record...

Let me give you even more material. We've come back to the pack with our play of late. The committee values how you're playing as we near the tournament. There are a handful of teams that might be a threat for a 2 seed that could bump us down a rung if we lay an egg in the SECT. Michigan State, Bama, Texas Tech, Saint Johns and aTm all are nipping at our heels. Before Ole Miss I was of the opinion that the SECT meant nothing and didn't matter. With the results of this past week, I'm of the opinion that it does matter where UT is concerned. We'd better show out in the SECT or we might just get jobbed by the committee....again.
