6 points I gathered today

The offensive line still puzzles me at how they can't dominate the run game when all starters are in, but they turned it on and did pretty good... but this wasn't SEC play. I'm nervous but think they will be okay.

Worley needs more time. CBJ thinks he's the best QB and I trust him-for now. He did better in the 2nd half. Let's wait until next week to make the coaches decision to change.

Really disappointed CBJ allows that absolutely retarded punt formation.

On defense, despite giving up more big chunk yardage, it was against a good RB and this defense plays disciplined with good tackling and like they know what they're doing. HUGE for us wondering if this unit is really as bad as last year.

Chavis 2.0? Why is the backs playing so far back? At least there wasn't anyone really beat much. However I can't understand why the middle was open. Big play defense. Pick your poison.

Palardy could end up being POY for UT.

Not sure I'd be questioning the DBs today.

The DBs weren't the problem. Our linebackers couldn't cover their own shadow. Petrino attacked the linebackers all day and there was nothing they could do about it. Sutton and Coleman were outstanding today.

AJ isn't a cover MLB and they were trying to get one on one with their TEs with AJ. They scored that TD with their TE on a one on one with AJ. Sapp is a solid WLB in coverage. Brewer can also hold his own in coverage, but when we start putting AJ in one on one situations, whether it be a zone where he picks up a guy crossing the middle or he is actually manning up with someone, he is going to fail a lot. AJ's only weakness is his speed in coverage, and great offensive coord will try to find ways to exploit it. Our safeties are going to be key for our success on defense as they are going to have to prevent big plays from happening while also helping out our LBs in coverage.

Or.... The team gathered 52 points, and say fuu your 6 points

WORLEY is not gonna keep SEC def. co-ord. up at night before we play them. Now I can see why bad-boy Bray did not worry so much about getting benched. Worley is a good person and a good teammate I am sure, but he must improve the accuracy of his throws. Otherwise, we don't have a chance to upset teams like Bama and the Ducks. On the plus side- our frosh CBs look and play like quality SEC secondary guys. That punt block is just an aberration cause Butch is a good coach. He is to Dooley what JohnWard is to Bob ( I cant keep anything straight) Kessling. Better times are gonna happen. Patience fellow Vol lovers, Butch will get us back to where we belong. He knows stuff.

I agree with this. Ridiculous how Worley cant hit him. Dont know if its route running by Marquez or Worley has bad luck with him, but s***, you can tell Marquez wants the ball and wants to make plays.

Marquez would have 4 TDs if not for Worley's inability to throw the ball.

AJ blows in coverage. There's no other way to put it. Sapp and Brewer have no business being starting linebackers for any SEC school. We need Curt Maggitt back badly.

Biggest positives, Defense: Ball Disruption. Defense caused several fumbles. Sapp got the first one. when he realized he had two team mates to help on the tackle, and saw the ball, he ripped it out. They were going after the ball throughout the game. Much more heads up play that last year. Secondary did well getting picks.

Biggest concern, Defense: Containment. WKU got way too many 3rd down conversions. You cannot give up 15 yards on 3rd and 14.

Biggest positive, Offense: Ball Security. On most possessions, Vols moved the ball well, but had trouble at times. Worley didn't play perfect, but did not do anything stupid. Whole unit took care of the ball.

Biggest concern, offense: Production. Vols had lots of missed opportunities. Neal ran well down the stretch, but is still dancing around instead of finishing the play at times. Worley and the receivers are still having trouble on reads and routes, but after two games, they need to get that on track.

Overall, improved in many ways from last week, but the growth of this team needs a spurt to keep up with Oregon. For now, so far so good. Vols have beaten the worst team in the Ohio Valley conference, and a fairly decent team from the mighty Sun Belt Conference. It gets real from here.

Does anybody really think we have a chance at upsetting the top two teams in the country this this year?

I respectfully disagree on Sapp. He's been a guy who has really shined for us this year so far. Sapp has speed that AJ, Brewer, and Maggit just don't posses. What I truly want to see is Maggit playing WDE on passing downs in the LEO position. IDK if anyone noticed but on a third and long today we actually went with only 3 guys down and a LEO DE. I think once Maggit and Veeren are healthy we will see that a lot more. A dream would be on 3rd and passing downs this line up:

SDE: J. Williams/ J. Smith
DT: Hood
NT: Couch
LEO: Maggit/ Veeren
LB: Sapp
LB: Brewer
CB: Sutton
CB: Coleman
Nickel CB: Toney/ Swafford
FS: Randolph
SS: McNeil

What I saw from Section ZZ15 was:

Worley I thought looked pretty good, yes, there were a few throws that were off, but more than not, it was receivers not catching it. Croom had no excuse on that one drop. However the on the ground catch that North made was amazing.

Raijon and Marlin did a good job today, and even Summerhill played a good game. What I like about our running game, is that they never fell backwards, and nobody ever drove them back. Very few plays for negative yardage.

However, I would have liked to see Peterman/Worley keep it on the option once or twice. Everyone in the stadium knew it was going to the RB. But even still, we had some good yards.

I'm not sure if it was just that our D was amazing, or that WKU's offense was really bad. But mad props to the D for taking advantage of the bad throws and reads the QB made. I could not believe the turnovers that just kept coming. It felt unreal. Stripping fumbles like that, and doing well to not just bat the ball, but make the INT is huge, and shows great awareness on our part. Loved that Sutton had a great game. He looks great, and is going to have a great future for us.

Peterman is going to transfer eventually, I think. I think it's very telling that Butch did not let him throw even once.

Pretty disappointed with the playcalling at the end of the first half. We tried to keep it conservative, and run the ball three times, only to have the punt blocked, setting them up with amazing field position. I want to see us go for it on 4th and 1 with our OL and RB's as well. There's no reason not to. I know Butch is a class guy, but he's gotta show some swagger and guts and cut throat attitude to win in this league.

OL does a good job, but I'm not blown away by them. I feel like they should dominate even more than they do. That's just my opinion though.

The DL has got a lot of work to do as well. Good pressure in the second half, but not nearly enough in the first, though enough to cause the turnovers. I just want to see more pressure situations for their QB.

A.J. Johnson will be here next year. Why? Because in pass coverage, he is just not good. And the NFL will not highly draft a player who can't pass coverage. Hopefully he can improve in that area.

Was really hopeful that Maggitt would play, but it was obvious we didn't need him. Hopefully he and Jacques will be back for Oregon. We'll need them. Devrin will be out for 4-6 weeks, but I thought Vincent Dallas did an exceptional job returning kickoffs.

Palardy has arrived. He earned everything he's lost today. Perfect in the first two games, had several awesome kickoffs. I'm really impressed with him. But he still has to prove he can kick one past 25 yards. But so far, he's done a great job.

I liked what we did today. I liked the energy. I LOVED the video shown right before kickoff, it got me so pumped. I loved them going over to sing Rocky Top with the band right after the final whistle. I loved the jumping up and down, and the War Chant in pregame. I love that Butch gets that this is also an "entertainment" industry. I had the most fun today at the game that I've ever had. It was a blast.

By the way, I was so ticked we couldn't get the ball in with the second team O at the end. 59-20 just sounds so much better, doesn't it?

Oregon is going to be an extremely tough opponent. Right now, I'm not sure that we can beat them. Butch makes me believe, but our D I don't think has it. When you allow 400 yards to WKU, you've got a problem. Then again, WKU's time of possession was nearly double ours. Hopefully we will have a good week of practice, and who knows? Maybe we'll take the #2 team down.

I'm really glad you mentioned this as I thought Dallas was a few tackles away from taking two kickoffs for a TD. Also think Carter did just fine fielding punts, but brings little ability to break away for a huge play.

They sat on the ball at the end of the half because they didn't have confidence in Worley to take care of business. They didn't want to give WKU the ball back with time to get some cheap points.

I really was surprised when I saw him back there. I thought surely we'd see North or Sutton or someone else. But he really did get close to breaking a few. I was impressed with his patience in waiting on his blocks.

I was also pretty excited by the fact that when we got INT's in the end zone, we didn't just kneel it. We tried to run that sucker out.

Dangerous? Yes. Sometimes, we didn't even make it to the 20. But man it's way more entertaining.

You're not sure that we can beat them? Do you honestly think there's a shot? If Oregon doesn't win by 3 TDs they are a very overated team. I'm not being pessimistic just realistic. I'm looking at a 41-20 score.

Realistically, yes, it could be a blow out as bad as a baby's diaper.

But, yes, I think there's a shot. We're Tennessee, and we have talent, and we have coaches who make adjustments, and who gameplan well. We have done well so far in special teams, we have done well so far in running the ball, and controlling the line of scrimmage. We have done well in passing efficiency.

If our DL can slow down the run, and we can contain Mariota, and if we can wrap up and make tackles, I don't see why we can't be in it until the end.

We've got a ton of confidence right now, and the players believe. I know it's unlikely. But every upset that has ever happened started out as "unlikely." Otherwise, it wouldn't be called an upset.

Another thing that I noticed is that Jo. Smith and J. Johnson are the two most sure handed WRs we have. I think Pig is the best WR with the ball in his hands, and North is going to be special if we can get him the ball. Croom has really struggled to catch the ball, and Downs seams to be a favorite option for short yardage TD passes.

Wku was running shallow pick routes to clear that underneath too. Check the replay and watch the lbs fight through routes to get to their assignments all day.

On a goal line stand in which a team lines two WRs, two TEs, and a RB the FS is going to have to man cover one of those TEs if you rush your Sam LB while also zoning your Mike LB. We instead ran zone all the way and only maned up our CBs and Will LB most the time, about 7 yards off the man might I add. This made AJ, the Mike LB, have to pick up a underneath route in which he continually got burned on. If we are going to run zone in short yardage situations/goal line situations we are either going to have to go to a cover one to allow either the FS/ Sam LB to pick up a TE or we are going to have to rely on our front four to get pressure and leave our Sam in coverage in a cover 2. AJ simply can't man up, whether it is in zone or man coverage, a TE/FB/Rb that is faster then him, which is most everybody.

MAKE A NFL ROSTER.:eek:lol:

NFL punters average around 45 per.... Palardy is averaging around 45, some over 50, and has great control placing them inside the 20. I've seen worse punters on NFL rosters before.

Give him some credit. Players get better. This isn't 2009 anymore.

Worley wasn't the issue, it was the playcalling. Worley doesn't have the accuracy to throw deep down the field, the moment our offense stopped forcing him to make those throws, we were successful.

Worley needs playcalls that are tailored to his strengths. Short slants, screens, dump passes. All of those were more prevalent in the second half and that is why Worley was more successful.

Agreed. Maybe Worley makes those throws in practice so the coaches trust him. The coaching staff made adjustments and hopefully realized that some throws are just beyond his abilities in real games.
