I was just looking again at our 2014 schedule. Would you take a guarantee going in of 7-5 or would you roll the dice and go for broke for something better?

Definitely roll the dice. 7 and 5 might not be a bad season depending on how it plays out, but we might win 9. I know we aren't as talented as Auburn this season, but look at their turnaround and the possibilities. Also, what would the potential worst case be if you roll the dice, 5-7? Been there and done that!

Auburn came into this season with a loaded roster that was set up perfectly for their new coach. Right now Tennessee doesn't have the depth required to win 9 games. We know there are going to be injuries and we will play a lot of freshman and sophmores which means a lot of learning mistakes. I'd take 7-5 all day but the next 2 years I would expect us to get back to 9-10 wins (if we get quality QB play)

Champions always roll the dice and play all out. Most times I remember when you play not to lose you lose.

zero chance for better than 7-5. I'd take it and run.

ok, for the positive crowd, there's about a 3% chance for better than 7-5.

That's why I said I know we don't have the talent that Auburn had this year. I agree with what you're saying about our depth, but it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility that we go 8-4 and win a bowl game for 9.

How would we los?. The 7-5 is guaranteed. This isn't like a choosing to punt instead of going on 4th down.

Totally wrong. The season has not even started. There is a 50% chance for better than 7-5.

7-5. Next year will be another struggle IMO. People are underestimating the significance of replacing the entire offensive and defensive lines in the same season.

Our offensive line was one of the most underappreciated units in 2013.They had a very good year in pass protection (<15 sacks allowed, and many of those are as much on TEs and RBs as they were on linemen). Also, great year in running yardage (most since 2004, despite having a mediocre stable of running backs).

We'll have more talent in 2014, but it's all young and inexperienced. Going to be some more growing pains.

We've fallen a long way as a program and there aren't any easy roads back.

Because taking a guarantee 7-5 is settling for mediocrity and that is not acceptable to me. You play to win every game. If you are not willing to lay it all on the line then don't play. One of my biggest problems with Fulmer was he played big games safe. To many times we had a team on the ropes and he took his foot of the gas.

There's also a theory about digression and valor. Three straight years without a bowl game, major personnel losses on both lines and a murderous schedule. 7-5 and a bowl game is a much needed first step. Next year isn't a legacy class. We go 5-7 again and I promise the recruiting won't look like this a year from now.

I'd say roll the dice. I'm actually pretty curious to see how year 2 in CBJ's system is gonna look.

Playing every game looks a lot like 6-6 or 5-7 to me. Fulmer's poorest years have become the norm. 7-5 would make me very happy.
