7-5 or roll the dice?

I was just looking again at our 2014 schedule. Would you take a guarantee going in of 7-5 or would you roll the dice and go for broke for something better?

Replacing all linemen on both sides of the ball, I'll take 7-5 and run In 2014. Any year after 2014, shoot'n dice.

Playing every game looks a lot like 6-6 or 5-7 to me. Fulmer's poorest years have become the norm. 7-5 would make me very happy.

My comment was not intended towards playing or not playing every game. What I meant to convey is that Every Championship Team I have either played on or coached from little league to college had a common core of traits. One being that if given the opportunity to go for it all they did. Sometimes we fell short, but the times we didn't was great. For me I would rather have a team that always strives for the very best than one of settling for just a Bowl game or one game above .500
While I am realistic about expectations for team 118 I still would rather have a team that goes for the gold( I mean crystal ball) every time.

The very fact that this thread even exists tells you just how bad things have gotten on the hill. Depressing as all hell.

This:lolabove: It's bad. I try not to think about it. My friends tell me to "own the suck".....but can't commit but for a little at a time. I find relief in being a Sunshine pumper and looking for any significant sign of improvement....it's gotten hard to stay positive. I do know one thing....If CBJ can't get us to 7-5 at the minimum......I'm turning in my sunshine pumper ID card, no doubt. At that point, CBJ can go do "shamwow" commercial's and dave hart can join him.

This is all a "what if" from a fan's perspective. Our Vols will have to go out and earn every win. I didn't mean to single you out or say you were wrong. I was just saying if I could take a 7-5 (if that is an option) that I would take it. I also stuck up for Fulmer a little.

There's also a theory about digression and valor. Three straight years without a bowl game, major personnel losses on both lines and a murderous schedule. 7-5 and a bowl game is a much needed first step. Next year isn't a legacy class. We go 5-7 again and I promise the recruiting won't look like this a year from now.

I think the word is discretion, but I get and agree with your point.

I believe we will be better then expected next year.

I also believe Butch is playing to get to a bowl game for several reasons:

1. A bowl game shows the right level of improvement and progress.

2. A bowl game cements another top recruiting class.

3. A bowl game gives those Seniors who were half CDD and half CBJ a fitting exit (and another chance to shine for the NFL Scouts).

4. A bowl game gets the 20-25 Redshirts, as well as the true freshmen who broke into the 2 deep, a bunch of extra practices and some time in the limelight.

I have faith that team #118 will shock the world, we will be in the running to win the east this year. 7-5 will not accomplish that. But rolling the dice is no where near how the job gets done either.

Hard work and a vast improvement in talent will..

Games that determine our record seem to be Florida, Ole Miss, and Missouri. We have to win Utah State, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, Vandy, and Kentucky. Doubtful we win a t Georgia, SC, Oklahoma, or against Bama at home.

lol! I'm already looking forward to the class of 2015 based on what these coaches have done this year. All I will predict or hope for next year is a bowl which will be an improvement. But if the 2015, 16, 17 classes are worked out based on need, UT will be back. The worst thing that could happen now is for some of the usual 10 win predictions based on one class. But I'm sure we'll see much of that.

7-5 next year would make me happy happy happy.

Me too.

Going against the grain again, I believe the O will take a significant stride forward behind a much better than expected OL. With a full season and off season together, the WR's and QB (likely Worley) will show much better rapport and give the Vols a balanced threat on O. I don't expect a drop off in the run game at all.

IMHO, the level of success in '14 boils down to Jancek. I personally believe the position coaches are good. My doubts are in Jancek's ability to put it all together.

I think USCe is again a winnable game. They lose significant production on both sides of the ball and still lack depth of talent. UGA will always be within range as long as Richt is their HC.

We had GA beat last year and they know it. Those are two very winable games.
