You guys are reading this article the wrong way. It just means we're expected to win year in and year out, and we just haven't done it. Would you rather be #1 of an article titled "Programs that are now irrelevant"?
You don't rise back to glory by starting the banjo player from Deliverance (Peterman) and the clueless Dobbs...who couldn't even throw it 55 yd's, and then the horrible Worley. No offense against those guys but they don't deserve to be in the SEC. Starting for Austin Peay? Maybe...or better yet some junior college somewhere.
Someone needs to tell CBJ that the QB position matters.
Wow.
I don't always herp, but when I do, I herp derp.
You say these things and then follow it with, "No offense against those guys, but they don't deserve to be in the SEC."
Unbelievable.
If UT where a stock symbol traded on the SEC exchange, I would be buying hand over fist. There's tremendous value, a great new CEO, and an improving revenue stream (aka recruits). Granted the ROI may take 2-3 years but that's how you make easy money.
Be patient VN, buy into this major dip, and watch the orangebacks roll in.
pretty much this.
People looking at this article like its something terrible about the program, its pretty much the truth and based on fan expectations and history, we should be competing for SEC titles and national championships year after year, but we havent in 10 years.[/QUOTE]
Absolutely. Not winning an SEC title since 1998 or appearing in the SEC championship game since 2007 makes Vol fans feel that Tennessee is the most disappointing team of the 21st Century. And frankly, the grand majority of Vol fans could give a rip about any of the rest anyway. I think it is that very disappointment and gut wrenching angst over the fact that this is true which generates the grand majority of the threads and comments on VolNation.
I also think that is why there is such optimism in what is going on now. Tennessee should always be listed as one of the top programs and a day doesn't go by that CBJ pound in that point.
I would really like to see a senator introduce a bill that bans bleacher report and similar similar sites from posting a ranking type article that requires a reader to scroll through 25 pages. They aren't getting much passed in DC anyway and after midterms the Dems won't be able to get anything passed.
A few disappointments come to mind...
2001 SEC Championship
2004 SEC Championship
2005 Alabama game (Foster fumble)
2007 SEC Championship (Ainge interception)
2008 Wyoming
2009 Alabama (blocked fg)
2010 Kiffin leaves
2010 LSU (too many men on UT)
2010 UNC (too many men on UNC still blows my mind)
2011 Kentucky
2012 Georgia (shoot out Bray fumble)
2012 South Carolina (Clowney forced fumble)
2012 Missouri (40T loss)
2013 Georgia (fumble at goal line OT)
2013 Vandy
There were other disappointments but these were off the top of my head. Yep, I'd say we win the award.
