Uh oh, recruiting violations already starting. I hear Coach Ogre's giving out free lunch money and Clearasil.

Not to mention.............

You know what, I think I'd be overstepping it a bit if I were to make that joke about a 13-14 year old.

Kiffin has already offered my son a scholarship. And I don't even have a kid.

They were making fun of this on Mike and Mike in the Morning. They said that by the time the kid was in college, Kiffin wouldn't be there anyway.

Remember when 'that guy' offered Evan Berry (13 year old, brother of Eric Berry) a scholarship to play at UT? Well 'that guy' has done it again, this time offering and getting a commitment from a 13 year old QB...

13-year-old quarterback David Sills commits to USC - ESPN Los Angeles

I think that is one of the craziest things in recruiting...There is no reason to offer a high school athlete a scholarship until at least their junior year of high school!

So many things could happen...disinterest once they get older, injury, among other things! I just think its ridiculous!

Any thoughts?

It's physchological. I've heard a lot of guys talk about it was special when they got their first offer and they went with the guy yhat offered first. Doesn't happen all the time, but enough to make it worth it. Say what you will, o is a great recruiter and this is a physchological edge. He's changed the landscape of recruiting with his ideas( not saying for the better, but he has changed it).

To me, the Evan Berry thing is a little different than this. Evan Berry is a legacy player. Both his father and brother were great players for UT. It would be like Ole Miss offering Eli's son a scholarship once he began to show some promise.

This situation makes it seem like these coaches are going to be scouting the playgrounds soon just for the heck of it. It might make recruiting sense, but it's a little creepy to me.
