8-4

I was hoping for alot more as well, and yea as a fan saturday really hurt, but with transfer portal teams that sucked one year can compete the next...you just never know. however I think we really need to step it up and cover our deficiencies in the portal this year. Milton was never going to lead the team to at natty, seriously this is a throw away year and it is what it is...now next year....that's a different story

I think we should've been 9-3. That loss to Florida in hindsight is inexcusable. There was no shame in losing to Mizzou but the WAY we lost to them, frankly is kind of a red flag IMO. That's two years in a row of getting completely blown out on the road in November. If this happens next year it's no longer a coincidence. It's a trend!

8-4 is not a let down, it’s a reality of what this roster is. Last season was great, because it had stud players who just needed the right coach; however, last season was also a bit of a curse because it put a lot of glaze over the eyes of Vol fans and we’re seeing it in action right now. CJH and company are bringing their guys in and have this program on the right track. The only letdown was Saturday’s performance, as that was inexcusable.

Let’s not put the Vandy win in the bag just yet ok yea we can go ahead and do that they are terrible and a 10-3 season is still possible. Beat Georgia!!!!

It’s already a trend . . . But hopefully it gets fixed.

Annually, there's not much for Vandy to play for, but beating UT will always get their attention. While I don't see us losing that one, I saw some quit from UT against Mizzou. Not all the players, but way too many. If that's in a team and the team doesn't have strong on the field leadership, it is always a concern. With the New Year 6 bowls and the SEC east gone, it might lead to this team playing out the string. Likely good enough to beat vandy, but uga and a bowl opponent will eat that stuff up. I'm so ready for new blood in this locker room.

Exactly losing to a very good Missouri team at their home field is not unreasonable the way Tenn lost is inexcusable.

IMO we still need to do as well as possible to get a good bowl game and hopefully a win there to help recruiting. Hoping some of the younger guys can get some more game experience.
The realist in me expected a drop off after last season.
How many starting SEC caliber offensive linemen are usually in the portal??? Maybe a few from lower tier schools that want a good NIL deal and/or more exposure but I imagine there is a lot of completion for them.

I called 8-4 when Golesh left.
Golesh being here allowed Heupel more time to.focus and teach up the QBs, especially Hooker.
I just don't see the connection and same level relationship with Milton that Heupel had with Hooker.

That said, I am a little.concerned about the way those losses have come about. In each one so far, the team has been guilty of zero effort for either an entire game or half.

I think we are headed to the Outback Bowl. The SEC likely will have only have 9 eligible teams this year. Last year there were 11.
Georgia-playoffs
Alabama-Orange or Chik Fil a
Ole Miss-Citrus
Missouri-Cotton
LSU-Gator
Tennessee-Outback
Kentucky-Belk
Auburn-Music City
TAM-Texas
Florida-Gaspirilla (Need a win @ Mizzou or FSU)
Miss St-Birmingham (Need a win vs So. Miss & Ole Miss)

LSU and TN are interchangeable, I think. So it could be the Gator. Not what I wanted, but not terribly disappointed.

8-4 is fine, but there are two different 8-4s.

One doesn't build for the future, and one features young players taking their lumps, but getting valuable reps.

I don't expect it, but a win vs UGA is still on the table since it's at Neyland. So don't write off 9-3 just yet. Remember that they needed a late 40 yd TD from Bowers to beat Auburn on the road. They are every bit as capable to put up a turd burger performance like we did Saturday.

But yeah, 8-4 seems very likely. Most predicted 9-3 before the season. So technically 8-4 would be a disappointment. But 9-3 always seemed pretty optimistic to me given what we lost to the draft. 8-4 is basically a C+/B- season for me. And to be honest, that's an amazing thing to say given that it's tied for the 2nd best regular season record we've had in the last 15-16years.

Heupel better read the room. When they watch that film, it's going to be painfully clear who fought and who mailed it in to both the staff and the rest of the players. Gonna beat a dead horse here, but Heupel can carry this "players coach" too far. At some point, there has to be accountability. I hear that from players and coaches year in and year out. Accountability, accountability. So when and how does that come? Does it come under Heupel? Or is he just going to keep putting the same fannies back out on the field no matter how they play? If there's never a threat of being benched, some players will pick and choose which plays or games to relax and others to play hard in. Now that most, if not all, of our goals are gone, it's going to be interesting to see who responds and how the rest of the season. And I'm not talking just about players here. I'll be very curious about how the staff handles a 36-7 laydown and some quit on display. If Heupel rolls out the same lineup, it will be a rather significant red flag for me. I'm starting to get a Fulmer without Cutcliff vibe from this staff. Cutcliff was the guy who demanded attention to details and accountability. When he left, things changed and not in a good way. Heupel can set a tone for the rest of this season and going into next with how he handles this week. I think we start 17 seniors and a huge number of backups are also seniors. While it's nice to have those guys end their careers on a high note, they have to earn it by their practice and play. If they aren't giving back with effort, they shouldn't expect a coach to remain loyal to them. And be sure about one thing...younger players do notice these things. Again, read the room Heupel.

While I agree that there's always a chance in any game, I can't agree with your comment about a turd uga performance. UGA and for that matter, bama, don't lay eggs like that. First, they've got coaches who won't allow it. Second, those rosters are filled with 4 and 5 star studs. You take a practice off, much less a game, and you'll be on the bench and find yourself Wally Pipped.

I wonder if Mizzou said this about their Tennessee losses for the last 2 years as well? Tennessee will bounce back and put Missouri back where they belong. Our issue right now is consistency. Our QB is too kid-like and football is simply a fun thing he enjoys. He doesn't have that competitive streak in him like Hook.

Vandy has been blown out by every SEC team this year and lost to UNLV they are garbage this year, but in years past they can play us tough regardless of their record, thankfully Pruitt or Butch isn’t coaching us anymore. We should easily handle Vandy, but I agree with you we better bring it in the Georgia game win or lose and the bowl game. 9-4 looks so much better than 8-5. If you think about it we are lucky we aren’t 5-5 right now could’ve easily lost to A&M and Kentucky. We just aren’t a good road team away from Neyland that’s gotta change.

Graduation, injuries, has shown the deficiencies of this years team. A couple of guys on the offensive line are just not the level of athleticism as who we lost to graduation or transfer portal. Some good players coming up, but they lack experience.

Injuries are another hit. Look at who have been lost for the season, or a good portion of the season. Pili, McCoy, Hadden, those are just three that come to mind. I know there are others who were experienced and were being counted on to play major roles this season. Still lacking quality depth and/or experience in some positions, But getting there. I didn't get to watch the game Saturday, but maybe the last two previous seasons gave the team the attitude that it's just Missouri, and look how badly we beat them those years.

One thing I would like to see from Heuple is getting on a player who keeps making dumb mistakes, getting the team together in a time out and light a fire in their butts, and not be afraid to make a change to see if it will get something going. Having said all that, GO VOLS, BEAT UGA.
