Annually, there's not much for Vandy to play for, but beating UT will always get their attention. While I don't see us losing that one, I saw some quit from UT against Mizzou. Not all the players, but way too many. If that's in a team and the team doesn't have strong on the field leadership, it is always a concern. With the New Year 6 bowls and the SEC east gone, it might lead to this team playing out the string. Likely good enough to beat vandy, but uga and a bowl opponent will eat that stuff up. I'm so ready for new blood in this locker room.
Calling people you don’t know quitters is just disrespectful.
Getting beat isn’t quitting. There was no quit anywhere out there. Poor play, absolutely but that “quit” bull **** needs to stop.

Our "best" win was A&M at home. Who just fired their coach. This year is in no way, shape, OR form acceptable. No wins over ANY of our traditional rivals (UF probably wont even make a bowl game) and a squeaker by one of the worst teams in the league. Cmon, ya'll. Be real. We should be better than this in year 3.

Vandy has been blown out by every SEC team this year and lost to UNLV they are garbage this year, but in years past they can play us tough regardless of their record, thankfully Pruitt or Butch isn’t coaching us anymore. We should easily handle Vandy, but I agree with you we better bring it in the Georgia game win or lose and the bowl game. 9-4 looks so much better than 8-5. If you think about it we are lucky we aren’t 5-5 right now could’ve easily lost to A&M and Kentucky. We just aren’t a good road team away from Neyland that’s gotta change.
Well, Vandy did manage 21 points vs Mizzou. We were far closer to being skunked than putting up 21 vs Mizzou. Yes, we 'should' handle Vandy, but we've seen some laydown performances from this UT bunch throughout the season. They sleepwalk through Austin Peay. Laydown vs UF. Pack it up at halftime vs Bama. Another laydown vs Mizzou. Not sure how anyone can trust this team or this coaching staff. Optimism blinded me for a nano second and I thought maybe we could shock the world and snag a 10 win season again. Stupid cav...stupid. We are, indeed, very lucky to not have 5 losses at this point. While I'd love to see us scare the pants off uga, throttle vandy and then win a bowl game to get 9 wins, I'm just not convinced this team has it in them nor do I believe in this coaching staff getting us to that point....at all.

Something is def missing from last season we have no leaders no alpha dogs on this team I’m sorry Joe is just not a leader I’m sure he is a nice guy but he’s not a leader like Hendon was, Hooker was truly special. I thought we would beat Florida the way we lost to Mizzou and Florida was very disappointing and Georgia might start a little slow Saturday but you know they will boat race us in the end. I don’t think we will sink down low enough to let Vandy beat us at home if that happens then the season is a complete disaster and I will really be questioning Heup if he loses to a terrible Vandy team. We also have had some bad injury luck, Bru, Hadden and Pill were big losses.

Sigh....I can't believe I'm gonna defend this staff, but fair is fair. When you take off those orange glasses and look at what happened to this roster and almost an entire signing class, it's pretty clear why we have a gap in our development/depth chart. At one point, we were in the 60s in terms of scholarship bodies. That's not gonna work out so well in this league. Heupel had the stars align with players he inherited and we're ahead of schedule by most accounts. So I'll have to give credit where credit is due, but with what we've seen this year, you can't ignore the warning signs. This team has been consistently inconsistent. We've benefitted from an easy/manageable schedule to be at 7 wins. Should it have been better? Absolutely. Still, it's where I thought we'd be. What disturbs me is how this staff has performed, how they've handled the young talent, and how they've been unable to...for lack of a better work...motivate/inspire this team to bring it every Saturday no matter the venue. Look, it's not a long season. You have 12 opportunities every season. How do you no show for a game or even a half? I'm not saying win 'em all or play your best football every single play, but at least bring effort on every single play. 4 years and 12 games per year goes by so quickly. Not sure how anyone would waste a single precious moment. These days will end for every player and the vast majority will never set foot on an NFL field.

No more guessing or hoping. Just reality.

Respectable but, a let down after last season.

Next!
I think the people that are let down by this are more the ones who are unrealistic to begin with, or did expect it and have a hard time recognizing and accepting reality because of riding on the emotional highs of last season.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I saw receivers giving up on routes and some gawd awful tackling attempts. They were going through the motions in that second half. Not all, but way too many had given up on the game. Film don't lie.

Not a letdown. It's about what most reasonable people were expecting. And hell, this is college football, we still could beat UGA. I don't expect it to be likely, but it's not impossible.

It’s a letdown to me as we got whipped @ Mizz and didn’t compete. Even Heup said he was disappointed w some of the efforts. We didn’t beat a ranked team and lost by double digits in all three losses.

Florida- they are not a good football team. I thigh they would be better. I penciled in a loss preseason but didn’t think we would play poorly.

Bama- they beat us and better than us. They would be is on a neutral field 80% of the time. I’m not upset about the loss but concerned we didn’t make any adjustments.

UGA- hopefully w can make it a game. My concern is UGA fans will gobble up all the resale Tix on secondary market as there will be more on the market since the Mizz game.

Going in with Milton, I was hoping for 8-4 but bracing for worse. Yes, last week sucked, but all in all that's a pretty good season, especially with Joe's limitations. A bowl win of any kind now would give us some momentum into next year. With Heupel's experience with the transfer portal, what we've got coming in, and Nico having a learning year under his belt, I expect the same or better next year, and even more beyond that. Still think the future is bright.

I think we should've been 9-3. That loss to Florida in hindsight is inexcusable. There was no shame in losing to Mizzou but the WAY we lost to them, frankly is kind of a red flag IMO. That's two years in a row of getting completely blown out on the road in November. If this happens next year it's no longer a coincidence. It's a trend!
Yep. Mizzou is good, and a loss is understandable. But we just got absolutely dominated in every single facet of the game.

No we shouldn’t. We sucked 18 of the 20 previous years , had 3 of the worst coaches UT ever had, an NCAA investigation, reduced scholarships .
You don’t go from dumpster fire to elite in 3 years.
Last year was fools gold. We were still very average in talent and depth.
A few players that had never done much turned into elite players and we won games we shouldn’t of been winning.

I thought 8-4 was the most likely outcome before the season started. We lost five players taken in the first three rounds of the draft and replaced all of them with worse players - one of them being a should’ve been Heisman finalist QB (you could argue we didn’t lose much replacing Young). You don’t get better when that happens. The depressing thing is that we have five built-in wins, so we’re likely going to be 3-4 in losable games.

I don’t care about our record. I care about the level of competitiveness we play with. Our level of competitiveness against Missouri was one of the lowest I’ve seen since the Dooley years.

I think we were all hoping it would be a Manning/Martin scenario, but alas, it was not meant to be. Let’s finish 9-4 and welcome the Nico era.

So, if I understand this 8-4 foretelling, some of you aver that the Vols will upset Georgia, then let down against Vandy… I’m not seeing it.
