I know that lg's post was about "global warming," but the current consensus amongst most scientists is that it's an overall global climate change. In short, the theory is that every season is getting more extreme. Winters are getting more severe along with the summers.

well last summer was unusually cool. i can't rem last year being bad at all. then last winter(at least for huntsville, al) was unusually cold, and snowy. i've lived here for 10 years and before last year the most i saw it snow here might have been 2 inches. last year we had 2-3 snows of at least 5 inches. including one snow that was between 10-12 inches around the huntsville area.

that being said, the spring was unusually violent, and this summer has been pretty hot. is it just running a cycle?

I wouldn't doubt there is just cycling going on, I'm just noting this summer has been brutal. Maybe it is just me getting older. I usually love the heat, but July made me really want Fall to get here.

Any concensus as to what is causing said climate change? People driving cars and eating red meat?

Yep. Global warming isn't supposed to make it warmer everywhere. From its effects on the Gulf Stream, it could actually make areas like the UK a lot cooler.

It snowed in TN a lot last winter aw well. However, after the first few weeks of really cold and snowy weather, it got downright beautiful through February and March. It was a bitter couple of weeks followed by early spring time.

agreed. The AC went out on my truck during the hottest day I've had on record. Safe to say I lost about 10 pounds on my 45 min drive home from work.

The planet's climate has been changing since it was formed. Do we have an impact? Sure. It's pretty much negligible though.

That's really not accurate.

This is closer to the point. However, the gulf stream is driven by surface winds, which aren't as shifted by the greenhouse effect. Rather, thermohaline circulation is more the concern.

Ya, I oversimplified it. More pertinent to the US, our harsh winters have supposedly been caused by two things.
1) and increase in precipitation in the air because of warmer weather.
2) a high being over the north poll and a low being over the US simultaneously warming the NP and blasting artic air over the US.

My point is, there is a difference in weather and climate. While there may be an overall global temperature increase, it doesn't necessarily mean everywhere is going to get warmer. Some places may get cooler.

He does have a point - regardless of why he's posting it.

What is his point??

Not exactly sure - but I heard something on the radio referencing temperatures from the 1930s

The most accurate is satelite data and that has been available only since 1979 and shows nothing to be alramed about.

That is the number of daily heat records broken in the U.S. in July.

For those of you who come on here claiming that a few cold winter days here or there means there is no global warming, ****.

Some of the reasons could be:

1. The Earth has been growing warmer since the little ice age which peaked during the 1600s.

2. Many rural temperature stations have been closed and more have been added in urban areas which gives a false impression of real temps vs historic temps.

3. Always important to note that the Earth has not become as warm yet as it was about 900 years ago.

4. There has been all sorts of data manipulation since AGW hysteria was first introduced.

Here is just one recent example:

Changing Tides: Research Center Under Fire for 'Adjusted' Sea-Level Data - FoxNews.com

Where is the scientific data to back this unfounded claim?

In reality sea level isn't rising at all.

Yet another alarmist under investigation:

APNewsBreak: Arctic scientist under investigation - CBS News

You're asking me his point? Ok. He stated that those who quote daily highs in temp as evidence that global warming does/does not exist are being dumb.

I know the world is only 6,000 years old and therefore I believe 'dinosaur bones' are a trick that satan played on the world.

Oh, and global warming doesn't exist.

Science is for b******!!!
