9-2 and people are having a meltdown.

Woke up from my 2 hrs of sleep to random text msgs from my Lockheed coworkers:

Don't miss Uncle Lou's YSIO today!
If only we could have played the game in Neyland.
If only their crowd wasn't so loud.
If only it hadn't have rained.
You'll get em in the playoff rematch.
Vols by fiddy!!!!!!!
1998
Defense wins games, not flashy uniforms
Nothing sux like an orange

I am ready to crawl into a hole in the ground.............

Telling me this team would go 10-2 with losses to a Georgia, LSU, Alabama or heck maybe even Florida and I'd been ecstatic.

We beat Alabama, Florida, and LSU and were close walking through the wide open back door of the playoffs with 1 loss to depending National Champions...

And we let South @#!ing Carolina put an atrocious 63 point beat down on us. This is what this team will be remembered for unfortunately.

It's worthy of a meltdown. The team had a meltdown. Epic, historic meltdown.

If you’re going to remember 2022 as this game instead of Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Kentucky, I don’t know what to tell you.

Alabama Florida and LSU are tarnished by this joke of a game and the fact I didn't wake up to an ESPN alert informing me banks no longer works for the university has me doubting huepel.

Vandy is going to smell blood in the water next week and this could be 2016 all over again.

South Carolina is not BAD. They're 7-4. Bad is Northwestern...Boston College etc. I'm sick of seeing posts saying how horrible Carolina is. That being said....our defense is absolute dogsh*t. We have a good offense but friggin horrible defense. Cocks coulda put 70+ on us. Fix this damn defense next year. Heupel is head coach so this is on him to fix it.

Defense needs work, no question. BAD is also TCU. 90% of the people on this forum have been saying that for weeks. At least we didn’t lose to a bottom-feeder like the Frogs. 🙄

The people who are claiming that this program has something amiss act like millennial who want everything just handed to them. Bad games happen.

It's not that at this point of the season were 9-2, it's who beat us. Going into the season, 7-5 and 8-4 were very realistic.. Well, we beat Florida, LSU, Pittsburgh and ALABAMA while expected to lose to Georgia on their home field. Say what you want, at least we showed up for that game. For most years except maybe one I think 2017, we have handled SC with ease. KY and Vandy were near pansies to close out the year. SC owned us on both sides of the ball last night. I think we are a team who can't handle success. I can't take anything away from this team for otherwise has been a outstanding season considering where this team has been. But as the coach said on his post game interview, this one hurt, and boy did it.

If you offered up beating Bama, LSU, and Florida at expense of dropping USC, I think anyone is lying if they said they wouldn’t take it.

Last night sucks ass but let’s hope this makes Heupel understand he has to keep the train rolling and make adequate staff changes if he sees fit.

Dont fire the whole staff. Rodney Garner is great. The lb coach is alright. It’s specifically Willie Martinez and Tim banks that need to go.
That’s the majority of the defensive staff though. When you fire the coordinator and position coach, you’re probably also conceding a scheme change which means you blow up recruiting and a new guy has to install his system the next year with players who may not fit it and recruit players to fit that system. Then guess what fans will say? New guy sucks, fire him!! Also who would want the job since you’re essentially saying you’re willing to fire people not even two years into a rebuild after a mass exodus of players? Maybe Banks and Martinez are not the answer long term but we clearly have a talent deficit too.

Dude. Yes it’s no secret a lot of people would of taken 9-2 going In a heartbeat before the season. But expectations change throughout a season. You can’t beat Bama, LSU, Florida and loss to South freaking Carolina. Not just lose be get beat down. It’s that simple.

Definitely not having a meltdown, but we were exposed last night:

1. I’ve said from Day 1, CJH’s coaching abilities are somewhere between Lincoln Riley and Mike Leach.
2. The window of opportunity for winning in the SEC is small and always closing. This was our year. We probably lose 75% of our scoring offense to the NFL after this season.
3. We won’t be underestimated by any team next season.
4. Having the #1 offense is meaningless when you have the #100 defense. Not an exaggeration, look at cfbtats.com.
5. We need more and better players on D.
6. Hiring a Big 10 DC was a huge mistake by CJH.

They don't even have us in a New Year 6 bowl anymore.

New Years' Six Bowls

Rose Bowl (January 2): Michigan vs. Oregon

Cotton Bowl (January 2): Penn State vs. UCF

That's what happens when you get beat like a rented mule.

Yeah but surely they wouldn't take a 3 loss LSU to the Sugar Bowl over us
When you get embarrassed like the team did last night, everything is off the table. Probably just make it to a Florida bowl. If I performed my job in the same manner as the team played last night, I would be unemployed right now.

Those projections are current bird's eye view. LSU got a lot of help from us last night. They can win vs Georgia and get in the playoff. They can lose and miss out on the NY6 bowls.

The key for Tennessee is staying in the Top 10-12. With Utah, UNC, and Ole Miss losing, there will be room our fall to not be as hard.

If we are in the Top 12, very likely we can backdoor into a NY6 game. Especially if USC and some others lose along the way.

Who wants to watch Milton overthrow receivers by 30 yards and a defense that can’t stop anyone?

It doesn’t matter what bowl they go to; the season is over.

If you think tonight was bad, you really don’t want to see us in a big time bowl against a quality opponent. SC was not a quality opponent, somebody really good will destroy us away from Neyland. No meltdown here though, it just is what it is. Reality sucks sometimes.
They were a quality opponent last night. Good God some of y'all are priceless. USCjr's execution was flawless last night. Rattler threw the game of his life. They would have given the mighty dogs a good run the way they played.

So we just let Martinez and banks suck because it MIGHT hurt next year? Nah. They need to be shown the door.
