Big Orange Diesel, sickemsmokey10, tidwell, utchatt (not surprised given the posts) and VolInsider have all picked Cal.

I'm calling you all out, especially you TIDWELL...

:bash:
I picked Cal and the points. I think it will be a very good, very close game. If it would have been ut +2 I would have taken us.

I never pick Tennessee, I hate having to pick the game they're playing, so I always just go with the opponent. I try to be realistic, and if I have any doubt about the game, I'll just pick the opponent. I hope the Vols win of course and it sucks if they don't, but if they don't, I got the pick right anyway. Looking at the schedule, I'm pretty sure I'll be picking UT 5 times this year without a doubt or second guess.

Besides, I'll be right if the Vols win by 1. :)

I thought the oddsmakers set the spread to entice equal betting on both sides (they pocket the commision). If the majority of people picked the same team and they won, the bookie would stand to lose a lot of money. You know, and I know, that bookies come out on top. Maybe some of you internet guru's could do some research and fill us in on this subject.

Ideally, the goal is to get equal bets on each side. That is why the spread will adjust if too much money starts coming in on one side.

If the Vols are favored by 2 at home, and the Vols have'nt won a homegame against a top 10 school since '99....we being 14 ranked places lower than Cal, coming off a 5-6 season....and home field advantage is widely held to be only 3 points.....the oddmakers must see Cal as a huge paper tiger.

Cursing! Go to your room and stay there young man!

Don't think the Vols D will struggle. They have been and will continue to be what keeps us in games. If the offense comes out and does well we will win. Either way I don't see Lynch getting 200yds.

It is pretty interesting that people who are putting money on the line don't think much of Cal... but I think I've mentioned several times the kind of stuff they may be looking at... like Cal being 8-1 against teams with a losing record last year and 0-3 against teams with a winning record.

Nothing pumps up stats like playing a schedule where the opposition scores an average of 6 points less than they allow... and that's if you include the skew provided by USC's gaudy numbers. They scored something like 650 points and allowed about 280.

Cal only played 4 teams that scored more than they allowed... and lost to 3 of them. They also lost to Oregon State who scored less than the allowed by a pretty big margin.

I've been wondering why people would pick Cal as -2 and still think UT would win. If someone is ACTUALLY betting money on the game, if you pick Cal, you are essentially saying it's a PK.

If the defense plays the way I think they will, Cal will think they are playing a USC type of team. Don't let the 5-6 record fool you Cal. There are some hungry Vols that are coming after you.

People are saying Cal will win, but I believe the Big Orange will be doing alot of cracking in this game. TN will take full advantage of the crack block in the opening contest. Coach Jeff Teford might as well stay in Berkley. TN will win by at least 10 points in this game.
