A 10-year Excuse Treadmill

I give props to nobody until we start winning freakin' SEC football games, which might be never. I'm tired of being told that we should "chill out," or that Butch has got us on the right track, or that we are "close," or that we should be "patient" because the OL or the QB or the WRs or the RB or the laundry boys "need more experience;" I'm tired of hearing the "if onlys"---if only Worley didn't get hurt, or if only we didn't fumble or if only the officials didn't hate us. We've been on an excuse treadmill for 10 years. There are ALWAYS issues--every year: we will always be playing inexperienced players, there will always be injuries and bad breaks, etc. EVERY team deals with the same things. You either win or you don't. And we don't. Until we freaking' start winning, nothing encourages me. Worley will be gone next year--and we'll be lining up with more excuses. I like Jones--but until he wins games he's done nothing.

Boo hoo hooo, oh boo hoo, boo hoo, sniff sniff, oh boo hoo hoooooo! BOO HOOOOO BOO HOOO BOO HOOO, sniff sniff sniff, HOONNNK! pant pant .. boo hoo oh boo hooo, boo hooo hoooo, OH BOO HOO HOOOO...

You came away from a Georgia game on the road against a team that many believe will complete to get in to the playoffs and your takeaway is 'just win baby'? Butch is playing more freshmen than any team in the country and still, the team was right there today. Add the crop coming next year, and yes, I'm encouraged. Then again, we could just fire CBJ now for not winning immediately. Those who do that though tend never to win. Has impatience served you well in life?

Tennessee lost. 2 years ago, under Dooley, we played just as good a game, damn near put up 60 on them AND STILL LOST. Losing feels the same, and Tennessee has been down right great at losing over the last 4-5 years.

Really don't care if you're encouraged or not.
You got your attention for the night.

I have said this for a while now. Have you ever noticed that Tenn is the only program where a rebuilding job takes 4-5 years or more? Kevin Sumlin, Hughes Freeze, James Franklin, and Mark Stoops are all proving otherwise. Next year, we have Peterman or Dobbs. It will be just as bad. Tennessee needs to win now.

It's obvious that you don't fully understand what UT has had to endure over those 4-5 years. It's ok , there are plenty of fans that don't understand.

Nothing about the OP's post is irrational. It is all true. That is the tough part. Actually, the tough part is finally realizing the losing mentality that has been bred over the course of the last 10 years. You guys are okay with losing as long as it isn't "ugly". It is sad.

Fulmer had slacked on recruiting his last couple of years, Kiffin's recruiting class was essentially a bust....Dooley's recruiting efforts were substandard as well. Why do you think the Vols have so many freshmen playing? It's because the roster inherited by Jones was lacking in way too many areas. If you can't see the difference between what's happened at TN and the other schools you listed then there's little help for you.

Firing Fulmer wasn't the problem. Hiring two dumb ****s was the problem. If we had hit a home run hire after Fulmer, all of you still slurping his manchowder would be gone.

Exactly!! It was the two mindless hires after the firing that dug the giant hole that Butch is trying to climb out of.

Yes, the road back has been too long due to AD incompetence and bad coaching. But, I do believe we've turned that corner. Yet still, we have these naysayers who seem to live in a fantasy land where Tennessee would be competing for an SEC championship this year.

Rats, after visiting this forum for over 4 years, I finally tried the ignore button. I no longer see the OP's idiot comment, but I can still see the thread. Guess I was hoping for too much.

This is CBJ's second year. He can't be held responsible for the idiocy that went on before him. If you hire the right coach, the turnaround is pretty quick. If not, you end up in the situation UT is in, USC was in in the 90s, and ND was in until Kelly. You picked exceptions to prove your asinine point

You say this as if we rejected Sabans pleas to coach here. I know, if we had just hired your choice, we would be NCs by now. A team predicted to lose by almost 20, takes it down to the wire! You call that a losing mentality? I guess your comments are winning mentality?

Armchair, we have to be in these games before we can start winning. We're a long way from where Dooley had us. If Dooley is the coach it is 56-7 Georgia. We have to start winning these tough SEC games at home then on the road. But, we are getting closer. We'll tell you when you should be frustrated again if you can't figure it out. OK?

Seriously OP and I want you to be serious. What did you expect for our record to be this season? Oh you thought we would go 12-0? I know in your fantasy land where Tennessee wins the NC every year isn't happening so you need to just think about what you are expecting for this young team.

If he only he was dominating the recruiting trail looking for those pieces we need....

Oh wait. He is.
So far so good. The cycle will come back to us at some time soon. The scripts will be flipped, and these painful losses will be farther between and a lot fewer of them.. It's a rebuilding program. From the ground up. It was that bad. Some people never came to grips with the fact it was a dumpster fire for quite a while.
