A bad O line cripples playcalling.

Everybody keeps talking about our play calling and coaching (or lack thereof without Golesh calling plays), but the real issue is line play. You can't call plays around an o-line that is completely ineffective. We tried to take aggressive shots in the 1st half last night and got sacked multiple times in the process.
Yes, part of that is on the coaches. Especially the o-line coach. Elarbee needs to go. Our o-line has been overall bad and he isn't developing players. Imo, that will be Heupel's biggest test as a coach this off-season. Will he get rid of Elarbee and get an elite o-line coach? Time will tell, but it's definitely time to go in a different direction.

Most times that Nico takes a deep drop, they have called a pass play down the field. Nico took a lot of deep drops.

The play call wasn’t the problem.

The problems were an OL that blocked very inconsistently; and a QB that never throws to the primary receiver (could be a lot of reasons for this). As a result of either scenario, the QB gets under duress and we end up with a negative play.
If you can't protect, and you know you can't protect, why are you calling this play? The job of a coach is to put his players in a position to be successful, not call the same play over and over regardless of the capabilities of his players.

CJH is an offensive guy, it's his show. He needs to figure how to work around any offensive deficiencies. I know, easier said than done, but still his show.
Agreed. He makes plenty of money to get this corrected

Then they might want to adjust and go to shorter routes to get the ball out faster. That's assuming we have more than one receiver that can get seperation.

Also, Nico is just not there yet. He's young and he makes the mistakes most young QBs make and it's compunded by bad OL play..

I would like to see shorter slant and other intermediate to short routes to pressure the middle of the field.

Shorter slants help the OL and give the QB a quicker read.

It’s definitely part of his job description.

While this is true, there’s plays that can work around it more than quick bubble screen. Try drag routes, half back screens, quick slants, there’s tons of stuff we aren’t even trying

This was the biggest problem last year too but everyone wanted to point the finger at one person. Not saying Joe was perfect last year and didn’t make mistakes but when the oline is sucking it can mentally affect the QB. The long developing routes every pass play don’t help either.

Also, I wouldnt go as far as to him a liability but Bishop could do with some work on pass blocking. We were in max protect almost every passing play and they were sending 6 and getting home against 6-7 pass blockers on a regular basis. That means they have 5 back covering 3.

Some of you do realize we are currently 5th in rushing...not in the SEC but all FBS. You guys want to fire the OL coach? Come on.

Now, the OL hasnt played well the last couple games (had some injuries vs OK), especially pass blocking, but some of that is on Nico. I think some of you are looking to blame something that isnt our star QB, but he is part of the problem along with the OL.
Padded stats against mediocre competition.

I agree that a lot of the playcalling has been lack luster, but for everyone wondering why we aren’t throwing deep as much, that requires a line that can block long enough for the receivers to get down field. Poor O line play hinders what you can run on offense drastically. I think we should focus more on why the O line is still piss poor. Elarbee hasn’t impressed me coaching wise and he’s notorious for being poor at recruiting,
Truth.

You’re making too much sense.

Arkansas had 10 sacks in 5 games coming into the game and most vs Ark-Pine-Bluff. They got 4 more last night almost half of what they took 5 games to get. Some of this is on the O-Line and some is the penalties getting us behind the chains. Instead of them on their heels not sure what we are going to do, we are on our heels because the down & distance. Some is on Nico he needs to get rid of some of them instead of taking a sack throwing overhead of receiver out of bounds if no separation, He reminds me some of JG on his decision making under pressure.
Eric Ainge was great at getting rid of the ball, I think one year we had fewest sacks in the nation he just didn't take sacks.

I honestly think the coaching staff is telling nico not to run/Take hits and its messing with his decision making and that needs to change.

He's good when he does scramble, we've seen no qb keepers or designed runs for him. On top of that recievers not getting open he has no other choice but to throw the ball away or get sacked.

As ive said earlier the Recieving corps is doing him no favors by not getting open and im about over them, Leacock, Matthews, and Staley Need to start getting playing time.

And this is yr 4. It’s either poor cruiting or poor developing…..or both in some cases

O line got whipped last night and that is a disappointment. Campbell and Heard are going to have to get in gear, especially Heard he looked like he was dragging out there. He has to do better than that.

Oline is what it is at this point. And that’s bad. Win the UF game and this team . . . With this oline and a young QB can go 9-3. Lose to UF and you are looking at 7-5 or maybe 8-4.

Ryan Williams from Bama will eat our secondary alive. UGA’s Dline will feast on our oline. We have little chance to beat either from what I have seen.

Vandy and Kentucky games are not gimmes.

Don't have to have deep passes. Would have benefited off some quick passes. I don't think we've seen a quick slant since Butch Jones.
