a bad rule

I can't believe the faux outrage at this rule. It has been in existence for ever (or at least as long as I can remember). This rule covers punts, kick offs, dumbass players dropping the ball before the goal line when running into the endzone, and yes, perceived fumbles by Vols. Get over it. It isn't going to be changed.
Punts and kickoffs occur in your own endzone. I think the rule could be improved. But your right. When I saw the replay on the screens in stadium (section N), i sat down, because I knew it meant the ballgame. In trying to explain it to my 9 yo daughter, she replied that it makes no sense.

A differentiation between a scoring and defending endzone seems pretty clear cut. Differing rules for each based on each endzone type doesn't break consistency, IMO.

With regard to the fumble I see the endzones as irrelevant. I would prefer to keep the rules simple. return a fumble to the spot it happened In every situation were it goes out of bounds.

I love the fact that since this just happened to us, now suddenly everyone thinks it's a stupid rule.

Before that play hardly anyone gave it any thought.

Not exactly; many of us have hated the rule for years. The Alabama game when Cory Anderson..... was what started my hate for the rule.
