There is no comparison that fits the Bruce Pearl scenario. IF UT were to rehire him, they'll be going into uncharted waters. If any D1 school hires him, they'll be going into uncharted waters. I know of no case where a coach of a D1 program was given a show-cause penalty and then returned to coaching a D1 school. I believe there are a few cases where they found employment at lower division schools, but none returned to D1.
The only coach in history to get a D-1 job after a show-cause was Todd Bozeman. But the school that hired him was...Morgan State. No high-major program has ever hired a coach after a show-cause.

You hit right on we don't want the NCAA breathing down our neck till they nail us and if PEARL came back they would stay on our azz till they caught us.
Check out Coleman at Morgan State.
Only two coaches getting a show cause have been someone you would want to hire even if the show cause didn't exist. Sampson and Pearl. Sampson has some time left on his show cause and coaches in the NBA.
That's true. But, we really don't have much of a 'gene pool' to draw conclusions from. There have only been a total of 8 head coaches that were hit with show cause penalty.
Greenberg - his show cause is still in effect
Pearl - his show cause is still in effect
McCarthy - he is 73 years old
Sampson - assistant with the Houston Rockets
Bliss - his show cause is still in effect
Haskins - he is 70 years old
Bozeman - coaching NCAA basketball team
Wade - not coaching
So, Wade wasn't rehired and both Haskins and McCarthy were in their 60s when their penalties expired. Everyone else still has their show cause in effect, or they are coaching somewhere.
I don't think too many conclusions should be drawn from this about Pearl's future. The NCAA's penalty on Pearl was not consistent with any other penalty they have levied. All of the others coaches with show cause lied about serious violations of NCAA rules. Other coaches that were not given show cause have lied about more serious violations (before and since Pearl) without receiving such a harsh penalty (e.g. Frank Haith).
I don't believe Pearl will be Tennessee's next coach, but I do believe he will be coaching at a high level within the next 2 years.
Actually Sampson's showcause is over, and I didn't hear about 1 school inquiring about him.
What an assanine comment. Pearl was punished and has served his time. The NCAA is a lot more lenient than it was when he was punished. Frank Haith did much worse when he was at Miami and got hit with a 5 game suspension because the NCAA is a bunch of *****cats now. Pearl could come back here next year and probably finish in the top 4 of the SEC with little talent because he knows how to get his talent to overachieve.

I know the allegations against Frank Haith, but what was the NCAA actually able to prove? Pearl admitted he lied. The NCAA didn't have to worry about evidence as they had a confession. What evidence did they have that proved Haith had done worse?
I'm not defending Frank Haith, I'm just saying posters that keep bringing up his name, somehow thinking there's a Pearl comparison, are wrong. The NCAA can only act on what it can prove. Hearsay is not evidence. What Haith did or did not do has no relation to what Pearl admitted doing. The scenarios aren't even close.
