No matter how nice the article is, he just joined a faith where if he ever goes back to Christianity the punishment is death, by the strict reading of Islamic text.

My veiws on all religion are clear, but Islam is what it is.

Yeah, and by strictly reading the Bible Christians would be killing all gays.

i'd find his story much more inspiring if he had gone to saudi arabia and worshiped there for a couple of years and then come and told us the muslims aren't out to get america.

There is plenty of craziness to go around, there just happens to be a disporportionate amount of stupid violence preached in Islam. There is simply no denying that.

not really, Christians are told to not be judgmental, that "judgment" is reserved for the Big Guy.

What they're told to do is not the same as what they actually do or are told to do by the preachers. Pick and choose.

So, there are Christian preachers out there that are exhorting their flocks to kill homosexuals? You'd think we'd have heard about something like that.

Leviticus 20:13, King James

"If a man also lie with a man, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them." :)

Old Testament. I'd also like to see a proper translation. The KJV is pretty, but deeply flawed in it's translation of the original text. Regardless, if that verse makes you want to go out and murder a homosexual, you have a serious problem. ("you" in a general sense)

is there any point in the New Testament where Christ advocates the murder of sinners of any kind? I seem to remember he preferred to hang out with less than upstanding citizens.

I totally agree with what you're saying. It takes a radical interpretation of the Bible just as it takes a radical interpretation of the Qur'an. That's my only point.

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.

Matthew 5: 17-19

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
A literal reading of the Bible, while it would be incredibly conflicting (Jesus says both of the following: "If you are not against me, you're for me"; "If you're not for me, you're against me"; Matthew and Mark, respectively), could lend one to believe that Christ would still condone the enforcement of the Laws of Moses (Deuteronomy, Numbers, Leviticus).

If you're going to say that the NT pretty much says Leviticus and OT doesn't need to be followed, then why have the OT in the first place? I mean, you say that Lev. 20:13 is Old Testament, therefore tossing it aside like it means nothing to you, but you still believe creation, Noah, Babel, Cain and Abel, etc etc all the stories in the OT.

about as much of a race as Mexican or Hispanic

Incorrect. Along with the Sunni-Shia rivalry, the Arab-Persian rivalry is still fierce between the denizens of Arab statesand the denizens of Iran. Also, many Egyptians view themselves as staunchly Egyptian, more so than staunchly Musim (this is especially so in Alexandria).
