no matter what the star category is. Makes it difficult to assess because you can't tell from signing class to signing class which players won'g pan out. stability or no stability, this is a fairly accurate number.

Following information covers 2002-2009 signing classes for SEC schools. I found a number of players that failed to complete their eligibility at that school. Failures were counted for: players getting dismissed, failing school, transfers, just quit playing football or unknown reasons. If players left school early for NFL, I do not count them as failing to complete eligibility. Last updated in Spring 2010

Sure, coaches are better at scouting than the services, but for the most part, the services are pretty accurate. Most of them hit on 80-85% of all the prospects they rank. They just can't take into effect how the prospect gets coached up in the end.

To be honest, I think that they should do a re-ranking of like the Top 150 or so after all of the prospects have completed their eligibility for that respective class. Then, we would see how close they were. Right now though, they are doing well, but not perfect.

It will never happen. I would like to see it myself.

Nice work Larry. I thought it would be interesting to break down the 4 and 5 star players. According to my calculations, there were 38 - 5 star players and 18 were drafted (47%). There were 62 - 4 star players and 24 were drafted (38%).

I agree with a lot of what Eric said in the original post. I think that you need a combination of good coaching, solid recruits and role players for depth. The one thing Tennessee has been missing for several years now is competition at certain positions to get on the field. If you have the depth, it creates competition and makes the whole team better because you are striving daily to be a better player. If you have these competive battles in practice on a daily basis then there is little drop off in productivity when the back up gets on the field.
