I have to admit the guy has made all the right moves and said all the right stuff........so far. Don't know how he will do on the field, but he's obviously not an idiot. He is gaining ground with the fanbase everytime he speaks. If he's half as good with recruits, then this could be interesting.

Reminds me a lot of Dooley's first few days.

Except I don't think Dooley called or visted in State players in his first week let alone in his three years here. Nor did he say he had a open door policy with former Vols or welcome their services and input.

Might want to look into James Stone's recruitment.

Dooley was under the gun his first year dealing with only two weeks before signing day. Dooley recruited hard his first two years but he quit on the university and recruiting after the KY game last year. That's why all his coaches bailed and reports started surfacing of his lackluster efforts on the recruiting trail. He wanted out last year and Hart wouldn't buy him out so he quit.

If this is truly the case, Hart should be fired for cause and ran out of Knoxville on a rail. To have that situation unfolding before your eyes and NOT be fully prepared is insane. To put this University through the public humiliation of a botched coaching search is bad enough, but to have an entire year to prepare and THEN botch it is beyond incompetent.

Please understand that I support Coach Jones and I am pleased with the hire. I’m just astonished we ended up with this result after how bad everything went leading up to his hire.

This was NOT a desperation hire by any means!...Not sure where you get that from...Jones is a well respected coach and We are lucky to get him...Sorry you set your expectations too high but this is college football, not the NFL....Gruden was nothing more than a dream made up by Tennessee fans only to see it get crushed like most people expected....Stoops was never going to leave OU, That was hilarious some people thought it would actually happen after him building that $20 million dollar mansion in norman...Gundy used us for a raise, Charlie Strong, We dodged a big bullet there...Most overrated coach on the list no doubt....We are very very lucky to have coach Jones and I am excited to see how he builds us up...Give the guy a chance and lets see if he can turn us around...He's been a winner EVERYWHERE he's been so far so lets hope it continues here at UT....GO VOLS!!:clapping:

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. That was the point, to show that he is doing some good already.
Im curious to know why WREG-TV, the CBS affiliate in Memphis, reported Gruden had an "offer in hand" if that was all just made up by the people though. Seems like they would have better sources but IDK.
I will support CBJ or any other coach that TN hires, but I wonder where we would have gone if he had declined like gruden, stoops, fisher, gundy, and strong did. Thats actually pretty close to getting desperate, even though that wasnt the point of the thread.

This pretty much sums it up. When Hart didn't hand over the money, Dooley decided to throw in the towel and go waterskiing.

:good!: But I do think Grudes flirted with the idea and was possibly distracted buy nfl interest in him.
