A desperation hire with serious concerns......BUT

This guy was on the radar from the start. He was very likely on Hart's list from the start. He wasn't first perhaps.... but he wasn't a "desperation hire".

I was all for letting Dooley get a legitimate shot after he was hired. But he most certainly WAS a desperation hire. Kiffin left in mid-January. Top shelf coaches said "no thanks". MH tried to find his best bet out of those considered "up and comers". He ended up with Dooley.

This hire was absolutely NOTHING like that. Jones was decidedly ready for his next step. He has the record of success to support it.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. That was the point, to show that he is doing some good already.
Im curious to know why WREG-TV, the CBS affiliate in Memphis, reported Gruden had an "offer in hand" if that was all just made up by the people though. Seems like they would have better sources but IDK.
I will support CBJ or any other coach that TN hires, but I wonder where we would have gone if he had declined like gruden, stoops, fisher, gundy, and strong did. Thats actually pretty close to getting desperate, even though that wasnt the point of the thread.

Unfortunately we'll probably never know what truly went down with Gruden. I believe there was more to it than has been reported. I think the one's that say it was a pipe dream are just as delusional as anyone that said it was a done deal. I think the truth falls somewhere in between. I would kill to know the truth.

the last days will be the same as well. Except he'll be in twitter battles with the legion of the miserable --

Doubt it. Jones will win more. It may not be enough. But he will win more than Dooley.

He's a proven gameday coach. Dooley was not.

He starts with a roster good enough to compete with most of even next year's opponents. Dooley did not.

This recruiting class matters. But Jones has two things going for him that makes me believe someone on UT's schedule next fall will get upset vs the Vols. One, he will start with one of the best OL's in the country. No matter what else you want to do on O... that's huge. Two, he probably starts with more defensive talent than he's ever coached.

If this year's 37 ppg falls to say 26 ppg... he will get a win or two more than expected next fall. IMO, we will see that improvement JUST from having a scheme that the players can understand and execute.

Nothing alike . Dooley was a hick loser I never thought was a good hire who was only hired because of family connections. BJ was hired because he is a winner. Dooley was an arrogant fake Sabah a## hole. People actually like BJ who has been way more accessible.

We do know the truth. All the people close to Gruden said he wasn't coming. People's egos are hurt so everyone wants to believe in a conspiracy. He was never coming and everyone on this board with a source in the end was a Liar. Period.

This was NOT a desperation hire by any means!...Not sure where you get that from...Jones is a well respected coach and We are lucky to get him...Sorry you set your expectations too high but this is college football, not the NFL....Gruden was nothing more than a dream made up by Tennessee fans only to see it get crushed like most people expected....Stoops was never going to leave OU, That was hilarious some people thought it would actually happen after him building that $20 million dollar mansion in norman...Gundy used us for a raise, Charlie Strong, We dodged a big bullet there...Most overrated coach on the list no doubt....We are very very lucky to have coach Jones and I am excited to see how he builds us up...Give the guy a chance and lets see if he can turn us around...He's been a winner EVERYWHERE he's been so far so lets hope it continues here at UT....GO VOLS!!:clapping:

Great post!!

Who are these people in which you speak? The only people I've heard was his agent after Hart'c cursory phone call. I can list several facts if you like that point to the contrary.
