Me and my best friend were watching the game last night...and he knows how much of a diehard fan I am of UT. I always would try and defend them and say we are really a good team, just underachieving...Cuonzo Martin sucks...on paper we are a top 25 team...blah blah blah. Last night he flat out says "YOU WANNA KNOW WHY YOUR TEAM SUCKS?....ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY BALLHOGS TRYING TO MAKE ESPN HIGHLIGHTS. THEY ARE FLAT OUT LAZY!"

I never really thought about it like that guys. Is this team lazy? He also thinks J Richarson is our best all-around player lol Do you agree with that? It was just good to hear it from an outsider who doesn't give a flying crap about UT.

Thoughts?

To an extent, though not as strong as the wording suggests. The key was that steal by Maymon, the breakout by Richardson who slams it so hard off the back of the rim, the ball hits the rafters. Down 2 even. Take the damn points. Don't need that extra ****.

Jarnell Stokes is not lazy. He has played like a man this year. His one-handed rebound in traffic last night was impressive.

McRae has passion, but he kind of reminds me of Scotty Hopson in a way. He can score like crazy, but I am not sure he can do much else. His passing is terrible.

I don't believe it's a lack of determination by the players. I believe it is a combination of scheme implemented by our staff and some weaknesses of our players (i.e. defense, passing, and Maymon is not his former self).

This was discussed last night. To me, it looked like Richardson thought he was fouled- he looked right at the trailing official. My DVR was having problems, so I could not rewind. Someone else mentioned that they rewound it, and it did appear he got slightly bumped from behind. If he tries to lay it up, and the defender (can't remember who) blocks it, then people are screaming for him to jam it.

However, I do recall an important missed dunk by Richardson in the Memphis game last year.

Yep, for some reason Maymon has gotten soft. He plays like a girl sometimes...its really sad. I love the guy and have always rooted for him, but hes really underachieving and its disturbing.

I would still take my chances with going up strong and laying it in. Hard to call the foul when he goes in with 2 hands and gets it to the back of the rim. Maybe he was, but if he blocks out and lays it in instead of trying to make the Top 10, the game is tied.

Before I say this, Please don't beat me up!!!!!! "This group of players would have a much better record if YOU KNOW WHO was coaching them" He would get motivated play out of them.

Coach Martin just doesn't motivate them to play better!!!!

Think of the past three seasons, of all of the real close games that we lost but could have won. Memphis, Georgetown, Xavier,

I don't totally disagree, which goes back to coaching. Richardson is not our best player by a long shot, however we do play street basketball, always trying to make something out of nothing, but again goes right back to coaching. This team is not tournament worthy jmo.

Yeah he had a missed wide-open layup earlier this year too.

I think I agree with the op tho that he is our best all around player. While his production may not always show up on the stat sheet, I think his consistent effort on both ends is as good or better than anybody. The improvement he has made since his freshman year is outstanding. IMO

I agree bro! Martin is not the answer and its time to cut our losses and move on. Please Dave Heart...(ha yeah right) Hart..do the honorable thing!

You don't try to make the Top 10 with a simple one handed dunk. He was going pretty fast down the court, and any bump will knock you off. Sometime it is difficult to see, but a simple arm bar in the back can knock you off.

OP, the problem is with the coaching staff. The talent is there but sadly it is not being coached up enough. BTW, if Josh Richardson is our best all round player, then we are up sh*t creek next year.

I do not think they were lazy last night, ha, i mean, of all nights for him to say they were lazy ... they were outhustling for steals and rebounds against the #3 team in the country last night

There are times when they try to make 'highlights,' but they're few and far between, and a lot college guys do that.

I've long said that Richardson is our most complete player, so I would agree somewhat. I wouldn't call him our best player, but he has the fewest holes in his game.

As for us being lazy ballhogs, I wouldn't say that. McRae and Stokes are who you want to shoot (if he's referring to them). Maymon struggled mightily on offense, and 8 TOs might look selfish. I thought we hustled defensively, especially in the 1-3-1 zone. Not sure where he got that sense. JRich's missed dunk at a crucial point maybe?

Bottom line is whatever the problem is the coach should have identified the problem and fixed in a long time ago.....a lot of players hitting the deck last night is not laziness.

Bad choices and worse decisions on the court are two more. Things to add to the list but it all rests squarely on the shoulders of the coach....

To be honest the look confused...they are not playing together as a team....

Did anybody notice the first three by Florida was in transition and the second by Wilbekin was when Martin for some unexplicable reason switched back to man-to-man? From WBZT 22 "Florida held a 53-46 lead midway through the second half but went nearly seven minutes without a field goal as Tennessee switched to a 1-3-1 zone defense and cut the deficit to 55-54 on Stokes' three-point play with 4:32 to play. Frazier ended the drought with a 3-pointer a minute later and Wilbekin made it back-to-back scores from beyond the arc on the next possession to help put it away."

Why what do you mean? We have the 39th rated class coming in next year. LOL

As you probably know zone defenses can leave a team vulnerable to missed rebounding assignments. I think some people may confuse that with laziness. I agree that we weren't lazy last night. Offensively ignorant at times maybe, but not lazy.

The shot by Wilbekin couldn't have been better defended, regardless of the defensive scheme. Richardson had a hand in his face and Wilbekin had to bank it in. Just pure luck. The switch back to a man-to-man wasn't why he hit it.

The switch to man-to-man actually threw UF off as they were rushed into a low-percentage 23-foot bank shot with a hand in his face and the shot clock expiring. The defense worked. He just hit a tough shot.

Yes, it's the flaw of the 1-3-1. It draws your rebounders away from the basket. It is part of the reason we were outrebounded for maybe the 2nd or 3rd time all season. It also forced several outside shots, which generally produce erratic rebounding angles.

Anybody else notice you posted this in about 4 different threads?
