i have to drive south Thursday and I've been trying to track it. It didn't get caught up in the front that came across like they wanted. That would have pulled it out to sea pretty quick. So, now we have this meandering pressure system that is spinning a lot of gulf moisture up over the country. HARVEY IS EXPECTED TO COME ACROSS TENNESSEE THIS WEEKEND. I don't hear anybody talking about it, but it may cut across Tennessee starting Friday and it may take all weekend to cut across. It will be pulling up gulf moisture the whole time and when that moisture hits the hills I would expect it to condense and rain like the dickens. Wind is NOT going to be a problem but I foresee a lot of rain if that's what happens. I would take precautions and expect a lot of flooding, especially on the mountain roads. It's very reasonable to think you may be cut off for a few days. This is a heads up because I don't hear anybody talking about it. Please take it serious and prepare for flooding on roads and flood plains. Best wishes.

Most projections that I have seen have it hitting West Tennessee and Eastern Arkansas.

I know it's not football but but I thought we should put it where the most people would see it. Get the word out because I don't hear people talking about this yet.

Its been on every weather station several days now.

Curious to know how mountain roads flood?

Ever drive through something like raccoon mountain valley road after a heavy rain? Plus there will be a lot of folks trying to drive to Atlanta ... expect rain. Do with that what you will, but I would hope ya'll be safe and expect it.

And then it will move east- slowly. Where does that take it? I will be driving through the rain bands so I've been watching it.

By the time it gets to Tennessee, it won't have tropical storm strength, just some rain mostly. I wouldn't sweat it as long as you have good wipers, working headlights, and good tires on your vehicle. Also, don't forget your nuts before you hit the road. :)

The Volunteer spirit remains strong today....

My wife has been down in the general vicinity of Houston for most of the past week (she was to attend a wedding last weekend and she has stayed to help) and she noticed a lot of Tennessee orange down there volunteering to help.

For those traveling tomorrow in West TN, be safe. It's going to be a lot of rain.

Well, it's like this. Let's play "where's Harvey?"

Where's Harvey?

Over western Louisiana.

Who's getting dumped on?

Gulf shores Alabama is getting dumped on.

See how this works?

Mountain roads may not be as susceptible to flood, but they are very susceptible to getting washed out. After TS Irene hit NYC and got downgraded, the news was all talking about how it the danger was over and the worst had passed. Of course, while they were saying that, Vermont was getting wrecked. When a lot of rain falls in the mountains, those rivers and streams can rise very quickly.

News was calling for half an inch in Chattanooga through Friday I think. Looked liked the heaviest stuff would go over Nashville or further west.

It's called the Tennessee Valley Authority. We aren't flat.
And the rain will nothing like what hut Houston.
