A list of your greatest bands of all time....

I'll give you one thing, it's an original list.

I'm a southern rock & old country hybrid. But that also allowed me to appreciate a variety of good bands along the spectrum of the varied rock spectrum. There was some good stuff coming out of the Atlanta/ Athens circuit at one time.

The Floyd
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Rush
Stones
Zep
BTO
GNR
BeeGees

In no particular order except the first one.

Unless you are from the late Eighties in the Jackson/Nashville scene there was a great band comprised of guys I went to Freed Hardeman with called Blue Tears. Formally Non Stop in college. Twisted Sister got promoted heavily in front of them by MCA, so they faded as quickly as they arrived but continued to do work. They were excellent. I sat in his den and watched lead vocal and guitar Greg Fulkerson absolutely shred Eddie Van Halen riffs with one finger in a cast. Bass and vocal Mike Spears formed local Nashville band Little Angels for a while and still does a little production work and maybe some studio gigs. Roger Lapointe was leaf vocal during college, a Canadian, and could pull off Steve Perry and Phil Collins to perfection.

I really expected more underground music from this thread. I'm shocked/disappointed to see so many Eagles/Pink Floyd/Van Halen/generic replies.

Aahhh...BTO...nice. A good compliment to Earth Wind and Fire. Haven't seen Bee Gees listed much but definitely a great pick musically. And from that type of sound, Donnie and/or Marie Osmond can still belt the vocals. Donnie sang on Oprah or somebody a few years back. If you appreciate superior vocal talent, he has a pure voice. Elton John.

It is "The Greatest Bands of All Time", very few can be put in that category.

I have a broad list that moved with the decades but some steadies I've always enjoyed. I also enjoy the bluegrass.

Skynrd

Beatles

Paul McCartney, but only live.

U2

Bon Jovi

The Clash

AC/DC

George Jones

Alabama

George Strait

Early Blondie

GnR

Steve Miller

Allmam Brothers

Marshall Tucker

Journey

Rush

Yes

Kiss

And the one hit wonder Switchin to Ride from The Kings that I discovered back in the day at 5 o'clock rush hour in Nashville on KDF. Smokin song

I didn't mention the Allman Brothers because they continued under that name when Duane Allman died, although much of their early sound died with him. Their first two albums (the first in particular), as well as their live shows from the time, contain some of my favorite guitar work ever.

I'm guessing a lot of people are unaware of or not sufficiently interested in the underground bands that influenced the mainstream bands that they like. It's a shame because it's so much easier to trace the roots of a band and find similar bands these days than it was when I was in high school in the 90's. Now you can just create a station on Pandora and listen instead of having to read descriptions/reviews and make a purchase having never actually heard the artist. Oh, how I miss the Ajax Records (paper) catalogue, though.
