I just read an article that had some good info about our schedule. SIAP but "According to STATS LLC, Tennessee is the first team to play seven ranked teams in an eight-game stretch since Pittsburgh in 1993."

I think that says a lot. People can say what they want but for a first year HC, that's brutal. It's been 20 years since someone has had a schedule like ours this year.

That's a nice find!

It's been like an avalanche, that's for sure!

Someone started a thread about South Carolina's schedule. We'd be 6-4 if we swapped our West opponents for theirs.

Weird how all the National pundits say we have the 3rd toughest schedule this year... The 2 teams in front are both in Sub-par Conferences ? Crazy I tell you !

I remember hearing this schedule years ago and just thinking, "what in the heck is Hamilton doing?" Granted, you can't tell if a program will be good or bad in the future, but even if the Vols were expected to be a top 10 team the opposition is brutal.

Info about Pitt's '93 schedule: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Pittsburgh_Panthers_football_team

Cliff notes from that page:
They played #4 twice (one at home,) #11, and all the others were #18 or lower (all but 2 were home games.) NO comparison whatsoever to our current season. I promise you our's must be the hardest schedule in the history of college football.

Final bit of trivia: head coach of the '93 Pitt Panthers was one Johnny Majors.

Why? The Oregon game is the only reason to say that. APSU, WKU,.and USA certainly wasn't reason for concern. The SEC schedule is set by the league.

I like that Hamilton scheduled a home and home with Oregon. It just didn't turn out like UT had hoped.

So, we're blaming the scheduke for the lopsided blowouts?

Please state the total number of teams this season who were NOT blown out by Alabama, Oregon, Mizzou, and Auburn.

Now, name any team that had to face three of them in successive weeks.

I'll hang up and wait for your answer.

We need to recruit a top national prospect for Qb,if we are to ever be a top ten contender again just my opinion!

Welcome to VN. Not arguing, but a hot shot QB is not necessarily needed. One that can manage the game, not make mistakes and gets us out of third and long consistently could do the job. This is a line of scrimmage league on both sides of the ball. On the other hand, I would take a Peyton Manning-esque QB any day.

Comparing our roster to those top ranked teams, what the hell did you think was going to happen?

Every so often the stars align and you steal one (USCjr and almost UGA) but some of these match-ups have been David and Goliath contests. I understand wanting your team to do well but we are simply over-matched against some of these teams and the score simply proves it.

If CBJ can sign 60 this class, we should be leveling the playing field soon.

Before the season most people thought 6 to 7 wins would be an avg yr n 8 wins an outstanding yr.

The goal is still the same IMO Anything less than 6 this staff has underachieved in their first yr.

The schedule is the schedule n yes they r against the ranked teams its the way we have lost is what has most fans worried

I am ashamed that I did not know that Majors went back to Pitt.

Did you realize that Mizzou and Auburn were going to be as good as they have turned out to be... top 10 teams before the season? I sure didn't. Did you know before the season Worley was going to be knocked out for the season and we would be running the October gauntlet with an 18 year old freshman starting at QB??

I know I had the Mizzou/Auby games circled with a question mark as toss-up games before the season... even if we had over-achieved, I never saw more than 6 wins in the schedule.

I thought there was a chance to get to 7 - although unlikely.

What has changed is that the Florida loss now looks bad. not terrible, but bad. And the Georgia loss looks far worse than what we thought at the beginning of the year, although I guess the Bulldogs are ranked again.

Yeah, I was thinking we would lose to SC, but win one of either UGA, Mizzou, or Auby. I thought our bowl game was going to ride on us beating Vandy and UK.
