A Look Ahead...2007 Vol Offensive Depth Chart

Is this because all of players on their defensive lines are graduating this year, or simply because you feel that since their defensive linemen are already good, they can't get better?

Graduation, NFL early declaration

Vol423, our OL will be much improved next year because the players that are going to be starting next year are talented. This year the talented players were too young. They will play at there talent level as they get more experience.

I hope you are right. This concerns me more than any position, even receiver. If those guys grow up fast, next year could be really good. If they do not, next year could be really mediocre (can something be really mediocre, or is that like extra medium?)

<word nerd>

That's an interesting question, and one that my style dictionary doesn't address. I think you could say really mediocre if you wanted to; mediocre may technically mean "average," but everybody knows that it really means "kinda crummy." Really mediocre should indicate that something is, well, more than just kinda crummy. Like our run blocking this year.

It's a good point, however, and in formal writing I guess you'd want to go with something like decidedly mediocre. My guess is that some red-pencil-wielding fascists out there would say that mediocre, like unique, can't be modified; in the same way that something either is or isn't unique (but not "very unique"), a real stick-in-the-mud might argue that something is or isn't mediocre. However, this is is obviously an informal writing environment, so I say go for it.

(Yes, I am actually interested in this sort of stuff. I have no life.)

That is a very unique analysis:crazy:

Just for kicks I've put together a little depth chart for next year's offense and wanted to get everybody's thoughts on how we'll look next year...of course this may change some depending on some of the quality recruits we get. On that note...I've compiled a list of our offensive recruits/commits from ESPN.com, Rivals.com, and Scout.com that I'll post in the next day or so in the 'Recruiting' Forum...just thought I'd mention that in case some of you want to check that out. I didn't do the "D" yet...just wanted to see what everybody's take on the offense next year would be...yes, stopping the run (unlike this year) is crucial to big orange success!

Ban Arian Foster forever as a running back. I agree, move him to be a fullback. Let him know how hard the blockers block for running back, while he a$$ just dances around.

Foster looked like a big, strong, patient back last year, following his blockers, waiting for holes to open up, then pounding through.

This year, he looked tenative, and there is a very fine line between patient and tenative. Last year, he was on the right side, this year, he wasn't.

I would like to think that alot of that had to do with his injury and some poor blocking in front of him. He showed as a frosh that he can be a good back, and he provides a very different style from Coker for a nice 1-2 punch. I just hope he gets back on the right side of the line.

Foster had more surgeries after last season than Robocop. I'd wait before giving up on him.

I haven't given up on Coker; I posted before the season that I hoped he had a breakout year, as his speed gives us an added threat at the position. I also like the fact that he is homegrown, although I certainly don't hold Foster's birthplace against him.

I think that right now Coker is the best of the three backs we have, and he also has the biggest upside. His performances when healthy have reflected that.

But as a freshman, Foster showed that he could be a good back as well. With the poor line play and his injury plagued year, I'm not ready to give up on him, either.

That was a typo. I meant Foster. He's the one that's had so many surgeries and injuries. I think after 2005 he had operations on both shoulders and a knee.

Oh. Then I hope you are right. Please disregard my overly defensive, yet extremely intelligent and well-reasoned response.
