Romney was asked if he would have ordered the raid that killed bin Laden.

He said "Of course I would."

Fair enough. Might be true. It is the expected response.

But then he did something so incredibly insulting and mean spirited I hope the board will join me in universally condemning it.

He added, with a smile, "Even Carter would have."

Eight brave servicemen died in that failed mission. For Romney to have intentionally invoked that for political purposes and to tie it to Obama .... Just despicable.

Sounds like he was just pointing out that it was a no-brainier call. Stop picking nits.

Do you have a link for this?

Could it be he was saying even a relatively dove-ish president would do it? Nah - it was an intentional insult aimed at dead service men.

Not sure where you are getting that he's linking it to Obama either.

The feigned outrage machine rolls on.

The only remaining question is did LG hear this from Maddow, Schulz or O'Donnell. Which one told him he should be outraged.

From the Washington Post

Romney: ‘Even Jimmy Carter’ would have ordered Osama bin Laden killing - The Washington Post

Asked by reporters following a campaign event here whether he would have given the order to go after bin Laden, Romney suggested that any president would have made the same decision as President Obama.
“Of course. Even Jimmy Carter would have given that order,” Romney said, referring to the former Democratic president known for his reluctance to use military force.

I don't think Romney is that quick witted to have made the connection that you are suggesting he is making to the failed Iranian hostage rescue. I think he was speaking about Carter's recent Noble Prize winning antics.

You are giving Romney waaaaayy too much credit. I just can't see that being his intent.

Relax... there are about 100 other things that should outrage you about Romney. This isn't even close to being in the top 500 on the list.

Speaking of lows in American politics:

Jimmy Carter: 'We never dropped a bomb. We never fired a bullet. We never went to war'

What he's most proud of, though, is that he didn't fire a single shot. Didn't kill a single person. Didn't lead his country into a war – legal or illegal. "We kept our country at peace. We never went to war. We never dropped a bomb. We never fired a bullet.

I suppose Carter believes there would have been no shots fired if that mission had landed in downtown Tehran as planned.

I saw a live interview where he made this same statement while flashing his characteristic grin.

I immediately thought of those eight men who died in the desert and said "you lying SOB".

And you blame a large amount of people on here for nit-picking at Obama. In the immortal words of Chris Carter, "Come on MAAAN."

Carter tried the right thing imo. They just failed and unlike usual American policy, they didn't cover it up at all.

Don't see what's wrong with what Romney said.

Interesting.

Because if memory serves that failure was a prime reason Carter lost. And yet, today, the Republicans bend over backwards to minimize Obama's success with bin Laden.

It goes poorly and its fair game for defeating a Democrat incumbent president.

But it goes well, and the incumbent Democrat is just playing politics.

From what I understand, he decided to do a rescue attempt, the helicopters had issues the whole time and couldn't do the mission. They accidentally crashed and the americans ran away leaving the wreckage and bodies behind. But that wasn't the only thing Carter was criticized for.He boycotted the Olympics, made trade-relations w/ china, gas prices rose, and he was made to look like an idiot by Iran. Not to mention he ran against Reagan...one of the most popular presidents ever. Reagan wasn't called the Teflon President for nothing.

Memory has failed you. The prime interest rate during the last six months before the election in 1980 was about 14%. In the words of James Carville, "It's the economy stupid."

Prime interest hit it's all time high in December, 1980 of 21.5 % and slowly fell from there.
