I like Bray, but it's time Tennessee got into the 21st century and put some legs under the QB.

GA Tech's Paul Johnson is available, and very well respected. Could install Pistol as quickly as the Redskins have.

Woulard has decommitted from USF.

HCs who are thought to be geniuses who wouldn't be if their QBs didn't run a lot:

Kelly (ND)
Kelly (Ore)
UMeyer (UF and OSU)
W.Muschamp
K.Sumlin
S.Spurrier (SCe)
D. Swinney
Jimbo F

Our offense was very good this season. I'm pretty sure we are in the 21st century. Brady, Manning, Brees, Luck, Rodgers do okay I guess.

Paul Johnson's team just went 6-7 in the ACC, got beat badly by MTSU. You talk about the 21st century and reference Paul Johnson's offense? It's archaic. Are you kidding?

I'm pretty sure SOS will be considered an offensive genius and it will have nothing to do with the fact that Connor Shaw can run effectively.

Maybe you should change your username.

This is not the days of bear bryant and Gen. Neyland. Paul Johnson would do for TN football what he has done for Ga. Tech. They are antiquated and can't come from 10 pts down because they don't score that much . This has really become a clown show.

Actually the triple option would work just fine with the right athletes to run it...Nobody could convince me it wouldn't work...Georgia Tech is running it and leading the nation in rushing with a bunch of 2 and 3 star players...GT is a tough school to get into and they don't get the big star players teams in the SEC get...You get some big 4 star RB's and Fullbacks and an agile QB you got yourself a nice recipe for wearing out defenses...The option is a tough offense to defend...Remember back when Air Force ran all over us?...And those were just a bunch of little cadets...I love the old style option style of football..I KNOW its probably never going to happen but hey it would be a lot of fun watching REAL smash mouth football again at UT.

PJ is not the answer. He doesnt let his recruits visit other schools. He's a baby when it comes to the media. He comes across as grumpy. He's as one dimensional as you can be on offense. I dont care what the academic standards are a tech, he's in recruiting heaven in ga and still cant get over the hump.

Paul Johnson is a miserable recruiter. Even considering Tech's academic standards. I used to be a fan, and I still enjoy watching his offense, but I no longer think he has any prayer of ever winning in a good conference.

There's not much I like better in this world than some old-school triple option football. If you can couple it with a dominant D and the right QB I think it is damn near unstoppable. As the original poster said, look no further than what the Redskins are doing with RG3 (though, in truth, they run much more read option than triple option). That said, Tennessee wins on the recruiting trail by putting guys in the NFL at a historical rate that has FAR exceeded almost every other school in the country. If they move from a pro-style offense they risk being becoming Georgia Tech, that is, only able to recruit 2 and 3 star guys (yes, even moreso than currently). All this is to say...I'm not opposed to the idea, but I think it's a HUGE risk.

GT might pay us a lot of $$$$ to take him off their hands.

Anyone who thinks we aren't at a disadvantage with our string of statue QBs ought to have his head examined. How many losses to UF does it take? QBs who can run are a HUGE benefit in college. Need I remind Vol fans of our '98 national title--or how about the 2001 SEC title game in which a backup LSU QB ran a lot and beat the superior Vols. We had a good offense this year because we had better WR talent than we've had in years. What about next year? Next year we'll wish we had a guy who can run.

Yeah, Heaven forbid we ever go back to college players playing college ball just for the sake of getting a college education. PIPELINE-----Baby!

The title of this thread sounds like a description for a play call depicted on one of those huge poster boards used by Oregon.

Paul Johnson's offense is not the problem at Tech. Tech scores a lot of points. The problem at GT is much akin to UT's challenge this year, we can't stop anybody.
The D is/was terrible.

Sounds like a Georgia Tech fan wanting someone to take Johnson off their hands.
