A replacement for Pearl

It will be another risky search for Tennessee should Pearl leave. Pearl was a risk as well. Most, if not all of the coaches in this thread wouldn't even consider the UT job a step up. Most would consider it below or lateral to what they're doing now.

Jay Wright- No chance
Chris Mack- No chance

Why would any of these guys leave what they have for UT?

Remember, Pearl came from a nobody school and a not so great background with respect to his name in the biz.

One of the most sad, yet true aspects of this proposition is as follows...

I believe the main reason that MH and our fanbase is so attached to Bruce is not even related to winning or to his style of play, but because of the way he reaches out to the fanbase. Lets be honest, as much as some of us love our basketvols, we are a football school. Winning a NC wouldn't change that. Some of us are more attached to bball than others but the main reason we have been top 5 in attendance the past 4 straight years is because of the way Bruce puts himself out there and promotes the program.

Finding another coach that can win is one thing, but finding another coach that is a "total package" is quite another task. The coaches that you named, while all are good coaches, are not going to fill the seats the way Bruce does. From a money standpoint, keeping Bruce is the ONLY way to go. Even if we have a post-season ban, with Bruce we will still have high attendance, concession sales, etc. The hardest part about hypothetically replacing Bruce is finding another coach that has the qualities the majority of our fanbase need to have the motivation to get out and go to a game on Wed night at 9PM against WKU.

That being said, not a single coach comes to mind that possesses what Bruce has. That "it" factor is remarkable in Bruce, and regardless of who we brought in, it would feel like dating a nun after divorcing a stripper

Well said!!! Pls post more often!!

BVF, I agree that winning puts butts in the seats so to speak, but even with winning it takes a little extra motivation to fill the place up. If Bruce took the Billy-G approach, we would be winning on the floor, but the upper level would still look like buckshot on a target from 50 yards. Bruce pimps out our program better than any coach in the country and that is a fact

I put that in quotes so as not to rip it from someone else's vocab. Hitch does use the phrase "total package" about every call though so I can see where you would think that. lol, but I am NOT "that guy" lol

Brad Stevens or Chris Mack, I think they are both good coaches, and if the money was right would jump ship to a bigger program like UT and could do well here.

Brad stevens will be our next coach. Dont think he can bring the energy that pearl had, but still would be a great hire.

Neither is likely. Mack is a former Xavier player and would leave his alumni if the fit was right but if you look at the pieces currently at UT, not there.

Brad Stevens is in a similar situation to Mark Few. Got his shot with the school that he is currently coaching for. A Indiana boy who will not leave for a UT job.

A realistic look at some future considerations:

Mike Anderson (join the club): he is #1 for alot of people so this could be a bidding war which we wont win. I know he is probably not going into Arkansas after the Nolan Richardson problem, but he is still a former coach.

Chris Mooney: In line for a promotion after a successful season and career at Richmond

Tommy Amaker: Took Harvard to its first playoff for Ivy League Title

Buzz Williams: Very tough decision to see if this will work

Blaine Taylor: Not a good coach at a small program

Cuonzo Martin: I think he really infuses his attitude into a program.

You have to remember for our current situation. We have practice facility and nice arena, but realistically the coach will come in with possibly limited recruiting class, poor roster and limited groundwork laid for the 2012 season.
