Thank you for your 1st half performance. Specifically getting your team off to a quick start in that 1st quarter.

You were moving, dribbling, attacking and scoring in the paint. You played like the nr. 1 recruit out of high school.

Much appreciation to you stepping up and playing to your potential.

Keep up the good work!

GOMERCEDESRUSSELL!:)

Absolutely! Mercedes played with purpose and determination to win the post area. Like the LVs as a whole, this was by far her best game of the season and probably her LV career.

Her best game as a LV. Without her presence the entire game, they lose. ASU adjusted at half time, but she still was a force on D and attracting double teams on O that led to more open lanes for the others.

The first half was simply amazing the way she played the offensive post position. A couple of passes she made showed vision. She played tough inside against a big girl. That was great to see. If she dominates in the post, as we saw she can do, and Diamond plays under control we can beat Ohio State. Graves also needs to put her thinking cap on and quit passing up 10 and 15 foot open jumpers, especially when teams double down on Russell.

Let's hope the ladies show that orange pride and continue to surprise some of us nay sayers.

I agree with it being her best quarter ( 1st qtr ) of her career at Tennessee .Not playing against a zone freed her to operate with more confidence.

Another observation,Mercedes has played her best when there only one low post in the game .That was true last nite as the " Beast " got in foul trouble early and was sat down .With ASU not playing a zone or sagging defense and with us playing 4 out and one in gave Mercedes room to operate. The same applies to the beast ,she plays better when Mercedes is not in the game,ie the conclusion is that play with one low post.

I'm going to give Russell her props that's alot of skill for 6'6 she was working that 1 on 1 Cedes has the potential to be lethal I saw flashes of why she was the number 1 recruit. Can we please get this Mercedes next season also because she was so smooth on offense... I know that she loves and wants to model her game after CP3 but she was giving me all Lisa Leslie this past game .. Way to go Mercedes

Yes, one year way. I like her minutes this year, she got seasoned this year.

Nice year, Mercedes, finish strong!

Keep playing bigger... once our guards hit shots consistently, she will have all the space she needs.

Granted I haven't watched whole lot of LV basketball games in the past several yrs, but that was the best half she ever played. Way to go! Maybe she wasn't a bust after all as i feared . :)

I hope Mercedes is as physical and aggressive against OSU as she was against ASU.

closer look at the OSU roster shows that their big girls (6'6") don't play all that much. ?

They still have some who are Graves size or bigger though that start.

Shout outs are great but if you are not willing to leave it out on the floor in every minute in every game, you need more of a butt kicking than a shout out. Just think where the team would be if Russell had played the whole season like she played in the ASU game. I know she is not the only one. Yes we have seen her dominate before but it never seems to last. If I am Holly, I am using the ASU game as an example and telling Russell that I want to see that type of play every minute she is on the floor. Russell has the ability to dominate the only problem is coaching is not demanding that type of play out of her. Some players just have to be pushed to deliver their best and I believe that Russell is one of those type of players. Good coaches know how to take good care of their players but also know how to demand their best at all times. Players will give coaches what coaches demand as long as it is clear, reasonable and obtainable, or players move on.

The way Mercedes played against Arizona State is the exact way she played last summer while on Team USA.

Moving forward Cedes has no choice but to play the dominate role in order for Tennessee to win. It's do or die time. Win or go home.

Mercedes if you are reading this I beg YOU to play up to your potential. You are so much more fun to watch when you do that. And stay in the post! Don't be roaming out on the perimeter, if Holly tells you to do that just don't do it and if she insist? Tell her to go eat dirt you want to win!
