Does this guy not rock?

My favorite politician in American.

Might be the next Reagan.

Might be better than Reagan.

NJ + Unions ...

Shocked it more like it.

I thought it was mandatory that every union meeting in NJ ended with someone getting buried under 3rd base at Yankee stadium.

Christie would destroy Obama in any debate, under any circumstances, even one moderated by Chris Matthews.

So is Christie going to run for the White House? I like his chances of getting a nomination. Needs to see about losing that weight, though. Too obvious of a character flaw that will be exploited.

I like his no nonsense approach to things -- he calls it like he sees it, no doubt. But I think to win you have to be able to keep yourself in check and not always say what's on your mind. I've seen Christie on a number of the talk shows and he WILL get himself in trouble before too long. He is very self-assured, but it is approaching arrogance sometimes and he'll say the wrong thing and refuse to back off.

Be a good guy to run a corporation that has to make tough decisions. But not one willing to be second-guessed a lot by voters or a powerful co-equal branch of government.

I could be wrong, but I think in some ways he is the perfect foil to Obama, and would resonate well with both his base and independents if the economy hasn't started recovering to the point that the every-day citizen feels it.

Not exactly sure that weight is a "character flaw".

Gotta lose that weight, though. Too easy of a target, and hurts any "personal responsibility" talk in terms of healthcare and such.

I agree - direct and specific (Christy) vs lofty rhetoric (Obama).

People are ready - are almost begging - for a politician that will tell the ugly truth.

I think he would, too. Until he says the wrong thing and basically stares down anyone who dares question him.

Remember how he reacted to criticism when he was on vacation during the snowstorm? Basically gave everyone who criticized his decision to go on vacation anyway the finger. Now, I happened to agree with him that it was petty criticism. But to run for POTUS you cannot be so thin skinned as he.

It is to me. We all have character flaws. I think over-eating and being in substandard physical condition is one. I'm no Mr. Atlas myself. But being obese is a personal character flaw, imo.

Have we ever had a significantly overweight president since the very early 20th Century?

And even if it isn't a character flaw or whatever: lose the damn weight. One owes it to themselves.

I think Christie is kind of an ass. That's what we need right now. A truthful ass.

I can see what you're saying, but if he isn't smart enough to choose his phrasing carefully in situations like that, so be it. And again, he called a spade a spade. I think as long as what he says is accurate, he can get away with it. And who knows how many future criticisms he shuts down by reacting so aggressively to criticisms like that, turning the spot light onto the question asked rather than the question's target.

being attractive appears to be the most important quality for getting elected these days.

Was George W. considered a looker?

I think Christie could get elected as-is, but like I said-- the weight is an easy target.

His being so overweight is an issue. And he's Governor of New Jersey. SNL would have a field day with the Sopranos skits they could do with him.

But I really don't think in the end that would be the problem. The problem would be that he just can't walk that bland say nothing line when it is called for.

Tell you what, though. Of all the Republicans mentioned as possible candidates in 2012, he may be the one who has the most room to shape his image on policy. He's not on record on much at this point.
