A View from Big Ben: I am so proud of my Vols

If “I am leaving” is all that good, he would not really worry about 1.6 mil more. He would be worrying about having the absolute best year he could have, this upcoming season; because, that would determine how much he would really get paid, in the future. He is “overpaid” now. He will be a low draft pick.

My thoughts on Nico (or opinion):

Note: I am going to say Nico but it is likely more his agents and dad in most of these posts.

Nico wasn't as good as billed (fool's gold as I stated to my wife). He had potential to get better though

Nico and Company are obviously upset that Tennessee isn't just loaded with 4* and 5* OL and WRs. They have brought this up several time (i.e., we haven't made it easy on them).

Nico wasn't ready for the SEC (it can chew up QBs)

Nico demanded more money and frankly, had probably become a cancer to the team. I think some of it could have gone back to last year. I think his actions probably did create rifts with the team. (Let's say you are one of the O linemen or WR playing for Tennessee, Nico is basically throwing you under the bus with the comments).

Nico wants out because he clearly doesn't have confidence in his performance next year. He will likely go to a school where he can be more successful. After some thought, I don't see UCLA because they have worse talent and pay just as tough of teams in the SEC. I am thinking more that it could be UNC (ACC defenses aren't that great) or Texas Tech. We will see.
IMO, Colorado is the likely spot. Dion needs the next QB, and he's got the brash mercenary personality who would stand by Nico and give him cover (which he's going to need...why I really think it's the ONLY spot for him)...plus lesser competition would make him look better. UNC may be in need, but I can't see Bill tolerating Nico coming to UNC in this situation.

I am glad he cannot go to an SEC team. I think this move costs him money in the long run. NFL reams will look at this an understand what motivates him……..
For NFL it's all going to be about his performance on the field. Does he improve or not. If he does, he's got the measurables to be a high draft choice, regardless of this situation. I think JH handled correctly...next man up...snap and clear. Just like Barnes did when Cam left mid season. Maybe we use some of our extra NIL to actually go and get another WR/OL...which, ironically, is what Nico was supposedly wanting. One thing for sure, our collective OL/RB and especially WR group is going to have to be really good to take the pressure off a rookie starter.

Still could be bad either way..have to let the season play out and although it sucks for some, it'll be this way for the next few years...another thing, he could be plugged in @ a school like OSU or USC,win a championship and take a guess who'll look bad
Don't think so. Just not that good. Sometimes high school players ( not just QB's) just can't make the transition. This guy we just "excused" was one of the kids who had/are having a problem.

It saddens me, but it probably is for the best. I can't help but get the feeling there was never going to be an end. If you start rewarding these "holdouts," it will create a toxic environment. If Nico had gotten his desired sum, we would have still gone through another round of this again at some point. There was zero loyalty shown from his end. Tennessee catered to him, made him the poster boy of NIL. Went to court to fight for his eligibility. This won't be the only time he transfers.

They're going to have to come up with a better contract system for the NIL!! Lord knows I agree with NIL except the non commitment and no loyalty part
