On the NIL top level guys are getting what they deserve it is the mid level guys who are not probably NFL bound trying to get what money they can get due to knowing for the most part it is their only chance. There needs to be regulations set- contracts etc to regulate this mess. That will take a few years - it is semi pro ball pure and simple.

Fixing the transfer portal is going to take the schools getting tougher in terms of how they deal with those that enter the portal. If they want this to stop, they need to completely cut ties with the players when the player enters the portal and do not under any circumstance take them back especially for what is perceived as more NIL. Show them to the door like any employer would do to an employee that quits.

It is sad that would be needed because there is probably some of these players that really need to find a place that fits them better - but the entire process is being abused by the chase for money.
The problem is leverage. If Nico got a $3M/yr (off the record) "interest" from another school and came to UT with plans to enter the portal, UT CAN tell him to kick rocks but that's probably not in UT's best interest.

If Nico presses it and enters the portal, we should just let him go and roll with Merk or McI next year? Even though Nico will likely be a better QB than either of those guys, stand on principle and likely take more losses than we would with Nico?

There should be just one portal,10 days in late April. I will always agree with the Orange and White!!!! I know I'm in the minority, but our colors are not black, wish they would do away with dark mode. But they won't

My point is that if the schools lock it down like this, then it forces the players to really think through their decisions.

And yes I would be perfectly fine with letting a player who really did not want to be at UT walk away.

Some schools will and others won't. Those that keep critical players, even when negotiations were tough, will likely have better outcomes.

As college ball leans toward business more than "students who just happen to also play sports," the "really did not want to be at UT" argument becomes less useful.

The teams make decisions to do what is best for the team and the players make decisions to do what is best for themselves. This is the way business works.
