"so perhaps it’s no surprise that tennessee’s jarnell stokes seems to be turning a corner in that way.
The 6-foot-8, 265-pound big man is just a sophomore by age, but he’s technically a junior after enrolling midway through the 2011-12 season, and the vols needed him act more like the latter this season."

"stokes, one of the few players in college basketball averaging a double-double this season, extended his streak to four games with a dominant, 19-point, 13-rebound performance in saturday’s 84-63 win over tennessee tech.
“last year, in a game like this against tennessee tech, i probably would have come out a little sluggish, not trying to rebound like i normally would and score the ball,” stokes said. “but this year, i don’t want to take anyone for granted. But i’m not playing for stats. I just want to win the game.”

"in order to win games, though, the vols need stokes to selfishly produce. Third-year coach cuonzo martin and his staff spent all offseason hammering home that point to the big memphis native, but he still chose to focus mostly on rebounding in a few of tennessee’s early-season games."

"the results have been easy to see.

Stokes shot 8-of-14 from the floor against outmanned tennessee tech, making him 21-of-34 (61.8 percent) in the past three games.
"i think it’s the mentality,” stokes said. “i came out trying to score the ball. I was calling for the ball, asking for the ball and demanding for the ball. That’s something i wasn't doing in the earlier games; i was just trying to get every rebound."

"but i think i did a good job of rebounding during this game, too."
as happy as everyone has been with stokes’ progress, though, even the big man himself said he can and will do more going forward. Now that he feels ready to join senior all-sec guard jordan mcrae as a consistent scoring threat, stokes said his production will continue to rise.
“i feel like the intensity and the effort is there,” he said. “i feel like i let a lot of rebounds slip (saturday), though, a lot of tip-ins, a lot of times i should have scored. I feel like my defense is very improved, but i feel like there’s a lot more in the tank i can give.”

"but that’s what the vols need, and they’ll need it even more in games like saturday’s at undefeated wichita state — a team that advanced to last season’s final four and is currently ranked no. 8 in the coaches’ poll and no. 12 in the associated press poll.
“he’s doing a good job,” martin said. “when jarnell's aggressive, he plays well whether he's making or missing shots. When he's aggressive, he’s active, he’s attacking the rim and is assertive, he normally has success.”

Good post, not sure why the writer did not use grammar but to each's own I guess.

The stage is set for Saturday for both McRae and Stokes IMO. There's not a guy on Wichita State's roster that can stop either of those 2, only they can stop themselves.

If both guys come out aggressive and stay out of foul trouble I think you could see both of their best games as Vols. Maybe not scoring total for McRae, but in efficiency and %. I could see Stokes going for 20&20 on Saturday if he plays a full 40 minutes the way he's capable of.

I'm guessing VN did that. I don't know why, but I think sometimes on mobile, if you copy and paste like the OP probably did, it will take away almost all the capitalizations. It's actually very grammatically coherent, so I would assume it was a technical problem since the author didn't half ass anything else.

And now I think the OP did some editing as well.

Just copy and paste. Yeah I think it does that since I'm on mobile.

15-20 range for both is a number I'd like to see. At least 10 rebounds for Stokes. When he's playing well he energizes the whole team.

Only thing that really can stop those two is a poorly spaced offense that lacks energy and attack mentality.

I want to see McRae do one thing that makes the top ten, because if he even attempts something like a dunk over a defender/360 in the open court/etc, then that means he's feeling it and we're doing just fine.

Still don't understand why we don't do more double and staggered screens for him and J Rich. That would be over 500lbs of screener to have to get around for the other teams defense.

and rollers with a spot up shooter waiting on a kickout. I think I could run that everytime down and get a shot for Stokes, Maymon, Mcrae, jrich or Barton at the key

Even that can't IMO if their mindset is right

The only thing on their mind right now is money and ever game they earn more if they ball out. You can tell that Stokes is way more focused this year compared to last. Important to note that we didn't have Maymon last year when we beat WSU. Did they add anyone? We need Richardson to step up and take Baker out of the game!

No real additions, but we will see a lot more of VanVleet this year than we did last year.

Did Baker play against last year? They got people on their board comparing him to Larry Bird and Kirk Hinrich lol. Honesty don't remember him.

I just want them to go there with an aggressive attitude ready to play from the git go. Impose their will on the Shockers. Give no quarter and walk out with a much needed win for a later Dance Invite in March.

A loss will be frustrating because despite the ranking, we all know Tennessee has the freedom to dominate Wichita State.

Get used to it, you'll see more of these types of posts before Saturday. It's the haters protecting themselves, they say we should dominate WSU that way if we win they can say it was expected and nothing stellar, but if we lose they can light the pitchforks.

Just depends on how we lose. I can take a loss, if WSU is that good and we play our best game and they are just better Saturday. If we shoot 50% from the FT line and jack up 3's all day, come out sluggish not ready to play, get out hustled, and don't put forth the effort to play D....then the pattern continues.

CCM can shut a lot of people up by winning against a top 10 team on the road.
