A Wiser Stokes

There's not a guy on Wichita State's roster that can stop either of those 2 [Maymon or Stokes]

Haven't taken a close look at this year's Witchy St, BTO, is there a big height differential underneath? If we own the paint, how well do we need to shoot from the floor in this one to get the win? That's the concern I guess, I don't think we can come out even close to as flat as we did in Xavier#1 or against UTEP. If we can control the offensive boards and shoot, say, no less than 40% from the field and 60% from the line, do you think that will do it in this game? Please, God, don't let them come out pancake flat in this one!!!

Just depends on how we lose. I can take a loss, if WSU is that good and we play our best game and they are just better Saturday. If we shoot 50% from the FT line and jack up 3's all day, come out sluggish not ready to play, get out hustled, and don't put forth the effort to play D....then the pattern continues.

CCM can shut a lot of people up by winning against a top 10 team on the road.

I would def be less vocal about how we are doing if we can get this win. I just don't feel like we've played or done as well as we should be doing with the talent that we have.

I feel good about this game as long as we don't come out flat. But I do like that we actually have the size advantage in this game. They past two that we didn't have that size advantage that we are going to have Saturday! Hope CCM comes up with a great gameplan.

I think we should start the game in the full court press that we have seen. It just looks like it gets our guys in the game and play harder. Start that way right at tip off to keep from playing flat.

Yes! That forces our guys to work hard from the jump. Getting some turnovers will keep us energized. Can't get caught on these screen and pops that I figure they will run for Early. I expect a good defensive game from JRich

Also, BTO, looking at their schedule, is it fair to say the Schockers are pretty much untested in their first 9 games? I'm not seeing much bacon on that schedule so far. Maybe noteworthy too that they had to rally to win over William & Mary and Oral Roberts, not that this means everything by any means.

BYU and St. Louis are quality teams, but no they haven't played any top 25 teams.

My only fear with that is that we start Maymon and Stokes, rarely have you seen us run that press with both those guys on the floor.

I would hate for Jarnell or Jeronne to pick up a couple cheap early fouls being too aggressive in the press.

I agree we need to use it, I just think we should wait a couple minutes for when we sub Davis for Maymon to do it.

Maybe Maymon needs to come off the bench about the 17 minute mark.

I'm afraid we are going to come out sluggish. Knowing this team, they always come out sluggish when we have a week off or more

Jesus Christ, I'm not saying we should, but it's my personal opinion that if we play to our potential we can definitely win this. Ya'll overreact. Not sure what the hell BTO is talking about, if we lose I'll still support this team and CCM.

My biggest concern too. We are way more talented than them. The key to this game is getting off to a good start. Would love to see our first 3 points be from McRae draining a 3!

Or a McRae steal leading to a dunk. Like the Florida game last year

You know this how?

We (WSU fans) seem to hear this all of the time when we play BCS teams. Yet, it is rarely true.

Which is why I have no problem giving Marshall his props.

This is sort of a fickle argument. Cause their is projected college talent and then their is proven on the court talent. UT would win the first(IMO) but not necessarily the second.(also JMO)

Your roster consists or about the same talent level it did last year, arguably less talented. We lost a 2* walk on, and two 4*s our coach didn't much like. We replaced them with a 5*, a 5th year senior 4*, and three 3*s.

On most reputable 2014 mock drafts you'll find 2 Vols, WSU one (and his stock seems to be plummeting).

I really don't think there's a question as to which team is "more talented". Now don't let that come off as me saying we're the better team, the more talented team isn't always the better team.

And maybe that's a kiss of death..I do recall one of the last comments the commentators made before tip-off of the UTEP game, "I don't think there's any question Tennessee is the more talented team here." :(

Good point. More talented teams at times believe they can win playing at 75% effort. And between the parity in college basketball and a quality(get the most out of your guys) coach narrows the gap in talent. IMO

Actually Ron Baker was #40 on Chad Ford's NBA list, so that makes two Shockers on the NBA radar screen.

If you put complete stock in the star ratings, you might be right, but not sure. Soph Fred Van Vleet was a top 100 and Jr Darius Carter was a JuCo All-American.

I don't know how many stars Tekele Cotton had coming out of high school. After the game you can decide how talented he is. I realize that sounds defensive, but it isn't intended to.

I am a cynic regarding the star ratings for a couple of reasons. For example in 2007 then Coach Mark Turgeon signed a 3*** player for WSU, who then followed him to Texas A&M and promptly become a 4**** player.

I realize that in most instances the BCS team has more "talent" - that just isn't the case with the last several Marshall teams.

So are many folks on this forum so you're not alone there.

There is no debate however that McRae and Stokes are legit NBA prospects and UT has another 5/6 solid players to go with them. Many folks here believe UT's a top 10 team if properly coached and motivated. The question's still out if that will happen for us this season. WS will be a good test to see.

Good luck, I hope its a great game!
