IMO "committing" then going back on your word shows a lack of class. I understand people change thier minds, but if you aren't sure don't commit in the first place. It ruins the meaning of the word "commit." The way that they are dishonored now they should be called "I kinda sorta think that I will probably go to this school." I disagree with people who say "we didn't need him anyway", we can always use good football players. But I am not gonna temper my thoughts just because its not good for the school's image. I am not pro-Fulmer, but all you people that were so vocal and negative about getting rid of Fulmer sure didn't help the school's image toward future recruits AND coaching prospects.
heaven forbid a 17 year old kid change his mind about where he's going to spend the next four years of his life.
I said that I understand that aspect. But lets face it, a huge majority of these kids have thier schools picked for them by parents or HS coaches. And thats fine, these people probably have the best interest of thier kid in mind. Some just want to ride thier coat tails to celebrity. All that aside, if these kids were really allowed to pick where they wanted to go to school for 3 to 5 years without people in thier ear, I think there would be far less decommitments.
I never said I hate these kids or anything like that, but you can't tell me that it doesn't show class to be upset over a broken promise.
Can you back up that opinion with any evidence whatsoever?
When talking about thier options, how many say that they "talked to thier HS coach about it". How many have thier parent's make quotes on thier behalf about how they feel? When this happens, often it sounds like an agent speaking instead of a parent neutral to thier kid's situation. Parents almost always go on visits. If a kid says that he loved a school but thier parents didn't do think that kid will end up there? Why do you think Phil was such a good recruiter? He sold himself and UT to the parents as well as the recruits. How many kids go to school where thier parent's did? U don't think parents have any influence on that? To think otherwise is naive.
Of course they ask for guidance from parents and coaches. That's a far stretch from having someone tell them where to go. In my younger days I went though it myself. It just doesn't work that way.
