…just gonna drop that in the punch bowl for the tourney, eh? No midweeks, no OOC, no experience making those calls relegated to the players?

What could go wrong? 🤷‍♂️
Didn’t they debut the use of the green base at first in the 2024 tournament? It’s the PERFECT time for experimentation!

At least in the MLB there had been a couple of years of exposure at the MiLB level. Personally? I think it’s a great idea. It seems to me the strike zone has been markedly more consistent. There are a few glaring exceptions, but “they” have been identified and i doubt they will return next year.

I agree. Love the idea, but making the conference tournament the trial run is certainly a choice. Maybe it’s a parity thing so you don’t have some schools having more experience with it than others?

ETA: Perhaps this will result in fewer instances of me being caught on TV making terrible faces while yelling at the home plate ump. If so, I’m 💯 in favor. 🥴

I love most all of the blue, and I never felt that any ump I saw live was trying to shaft one team vs the other.

Hoooowever.....

the ball and strike calling is very poor. Even in Omaha, it was just a random hit/miss when compared to pro minor league umps.

Three ABS challenges won't last past the second inning. IMO

They are doing their very best

I consume my fair share of HS beisbol, most often with poor sight lines to the strike zone. Helps to keep me centered… 😉🤙🏼

Fair point.

That is somewhat why I never get too worked up about it all. Just point of the games. Get a few; miss a few. No biggie.

But if that start refunding your ABS counts if hitter is right...the games are gonna take longer.

I like the old school umps who tell everyone to come up there swinging, and off we go. Keep the game moving.

Problem with NCAA basketball...too many reviews.

Bad calls are part of the game. Players make errors; so, do the umps.

This good or bad for us with our pitching trouble?

I have no idea this year. I lean towards bad, just due to our lack of power arms (compared to the last few years) but don’t really know.
I don’t think it will individually affect wins/loses. Tighten consistency on the strike zone? Absolutely! What gets measured, gets done.

I'm extremely interested to see how some of the umpires handle it. A pretty big majority of them have enough time in so that sort of 'criticism'/disagreement isn't a huge deal.

But I will be fascinated to see how a few of the thinner skinned guys handle a player tapping their helmet and proving them wrong.

(That said, I also expect the players to be wrong more than right.)

It'll be interesting too to see how quick the challenges are burned up.
