ACC Championship: Clemson vs. SMU

Some of you need to admit that you are only arguing for SMU because it is Bama.
And some are arguing thinking the world of college sports should revolve around the sec. Beat vandy or Oklahoma and you’re in. Say that out loud just to hear how sad that sounds. And it’s not just arguing against bama. Miami and ole Miss are actually more deserving than bama.

This nails it. Everyone here is letting their Bama hatred dictate how they feel about this, but as you said if it was us and SMU, we would be screaming about the creampuff schedule that SMU played.

The "committee" is playing a dangerous game if they do indeed kick out a team that was in the playoff and actually ranked higher before losing a CCG. I think Alabama is the better team, but the precedent they set will create a situation where teams won't want to play in CCG's if there's a risk of dropping out of the playoff field with a loss.

The bottom line is that the Big 10 has four teams in, and Sankey damn well wants four teams as well, and Alabama is a team that draws ratings and will create a more attractive matchup at Notre Dame, if it falls that way. This is a business first and foremost, and there has been an enormous investment in this playoff venture. The "committee" will find a way to rationalize it, and I would be stunned if they left Bama out.
It would never be us against SMU though. The ugly truth here is if we had lost 3 games, two of which were to Vandy and on the road blowout where we were heavily favored, we wouldn’t even be in the conversation. We would be arguing about Miami getting screwed right now. Our Top 25 wins and SOS would be irrelevant. Bama is on the margin only because of brand, plain and simple..

SMU’s second half performance probably gets them in the playoffs. I know the Bama nation will talk strength of schedule but that really should only come into play when when you lose to really good teams. Bama lost by 21 points to a 6-6 Oklahoma just three weeks ago.

Exactly! Why is SMU the only team on the chopping block and the other teams with weaker schedules are safe?

Because Texas will always be king down there and get the nod.

Just look at the favoritism they got against Georgia the first time…. Throw trash on the field and force a call to he overturned.

Wins and losses matter. This isn’t about money. Home teams will sellout regardless of who plays. People will watch regardless of who plays.

That is so naive I don't even know how to respond.

100% true. If we had three losses we would be the same as Ole Miss and USCe, on the outside looking in.

When in doubt, check the brand. It's why Texas, Notre Dame, and Penn State are ranked as high as they are despite playing weak schedules, and why Georgia wouldn't have been out even if they had lost yesterday and Beck was out for the playoff.

The "committee" is already stuck with Boise State and Arizona State in byes where they are almost certain to lose, another less than stellar team in Clemson, and now they are wrestling with the idea of letting a fourth team with little chance to advance in SMU over one of the biggest brands in the sport.

Alabama is clearly not great this year, but if any of the coaches in this thing was being honest, how many would prefer to play Alabama instead of SMU? If you say SMU, you're being delusional or your hatred of Alabama has blinded you.
