ACC Championship Game: #15 Pittsburgh (10-2) vs #16 Wake Forest (10-2) (ABC, 8PM ET)

5 drives with no points by Wake Forest. Punts the ball back to start the half.

They’ve gone cold.

Sacked yet again on 3rd down.

7 drives, 0 points for Wake Forest. And the defense has only gotten 3-4 minutes of rest over the last 3 drives

Big sack by Wake Forest on 3rd and 15 to make it 4th and 29 and take Pitt out of FG range.

3:45 left in the 3rd quarter

Pitt’s not only completing the passes now, but pretty much every other one is a Wake Forest defender committing holding as well.

TD Pitt. 12-yard rush with 47 seconds left in the 3rd makes it 31-21 Pitt.

There’s a good chance that’s game. Wake has only crossed midfield once since the first quarter.

If Wake doesn’t score here, Pitt could start to go into clock draining mode from here.

Another INT by Hartman that’s returned all the way to the Wake Forest 6.

And for the cherry on top of comedy gold: it was (unfortunately) while they were talking about how Sam Hartman uses his therapy to overcome the adversity of the game that he throws the interception straight to a wide open Pitt defender.

Pitt gets it in with the 2nd effort on 3rd and goal. 38-21 with under 12 minutes left in the game.

I feel like the constant talk about his mental health while he’s throwing these pretty bad INT’s is not a great look for the broadcaster

AND ANOTHER INT BY HARTMAN RIGHT AFTER THE LAST ONE. That’s 4 on the day, and this one’s returned from the Wake Forest 20 for a pick 6.

45-21 Pitt with 11:42 left in the game.

Wake might have kept it close with them for 3 quarters, but in the end it’s pretty much going to go down as Wake Forest getting just blown out like…well you’d expect Wake Forest to get blown out in a regular year.

Was just about to post this. QBs start doing this and players aren’t going to lay up before hitting when the QB slides.

That said, it was still pretty.

If they are going to penalize a defender for hitting a sliding qb (not talking egregiously late hit) then they should penalize a qb for faking a slide. The defender pulled up to avoid a penalty in good faith. Frankly it should be an unsportsmanlike on the qb. That or eliminate qb slide protection all around.

Is it unsportsmanlike if a runner looks like they're going out of bounds then cuts down the sidelines?

You can't hit them out of bounds either but you're supposed to finish.

If a QB starts to slide, and I'm coaching, I want you there tapping him down NFL style when he is on the ground. You don't have to hit him but be ready to hurdle him, touch him down, help him up, whatever....... but finish the play until it's blown dead.

That's coaching. Finish the play.

A QB using a long count to draw the defense offside is deliberately baiting a penalty. Is this unsportsmanlike conduct? But the count is designed to make the defense commit a penalty, nothing more, so long counts should be outlawed?

C'mon. Teach players to finish to the whistle. Be there at the slide. Run by him, jump him, something but let up when the whistle blows.

If the refs blow it early or late, that's the coaches job to challenge, but a player needs to finish to the whistle.

If you fake a fair catch, penalty. If defense simulates a snap count, penalty. This is what you should be comparing it to. Once you give yourself up and slide, if a defender blasts you, penalty. As such a fake slide should warrant the same penalty. Players ARE coached dont hit defenseless players or we get penalized. It's asking a lot to make a defender have to determine if the qb is indeed sliding or going to fake it in a split second decision. I stand by my original statement. Either eliminate the slide and take your hits, or penalize anyone who fakes it.
