Does that really matter, though? It does nothing for Duke. They get an apology and a foot in the ass, how perfect a picture this paints of NCAA football.

If the NCAA/ACC wanted to do the right thing, they'd award the win to Duke. Think about this: Duke has fallen out of the top 25 because of the refs' incompetence. Their chance at a division title is now in jeopardy thanks to FOUR ref errors on the very last play.

If I was a voter, I'd vote Duke as if they still had one loss. It's ridiculous for them to drop out of the top 25 because the refs fixed the game.

I am concerned we will get this crew for the FSU-FLA game at the end of the month. If both still have one loss, and the winner can get into the playoffs if they then win their conference title games, ugh, the combination of pressure to advance the ACC team plus their general incompetence might be too much to overcome.

Something tells me they'll be on their best behavior.

That was heinous, btw!

Now only to suspend the replay guy during our game. Goodness

I understand why the targeting rule was implemented a few years ago and I believe that it has made its impact on how players make a football tackle. A few years ago there were some issues with leading with the helmet, but since the rule has been put in place, coaches and players have adjusted.

However, I've never been a fan of the automatic suspension of the offender for the next game after being ejected for targeting. The ejection during a confirmed occurrence is understandable. I also believe that the occurrence and decision to suspend should be reviewed the Monday following the game from an outside source (i.e. someone at the NCAA or rules committee that was not involved in the original ruling) to make a decision on whether to uphold the suspension. There is simply too much at stake for some teams, coaches, and players.

We can't defend Duke getting a win, because then there would be talks about trying to give Tennessee a W against Florida. You know how the Football Forum is

I do think that was a terribad call though :thud:

This is the problem with replay officials: They can and often do make stupid, if not incompetent decisions themselves.

Did you post in the wrong forum?

There already is talk of giving UT the W against UF, and it would be no less silly if they did give Duke the W, because it's not the same thing.

I'm not even sure exactly which part of the UT/UF game you would mean but I assume it has to do with the 12 men on the field that could have been called. Even if you grant that, Medley would have to hit the FG, and you can't automatically assume he would have hit it 5 yards closer.

In this case, the game is over when the Miami player's knee was down. There is no debate on that.

I personally think a L should be a L. If we change it now then teams across the country will ***** and Moan about how they lost in 1956 to a blown call and dashed their otherwise perfect season.

That would somewhat be opening up Pandora's box, but given the potential impact of this loss it may be warranted.

Similarly, and more importantly, I think Freak should give points to everyone who picked Duke to beat Miami in the VolNation Season Pick Contest. :)

It will never happen and ultimately I agree you really can't, but man that sucks for Duke.

The refs should have more that 2 game suspension. The replay official should be fined or suspended for several games. The kids from Duke were royally screwed over by the officials with the 4 blatant calls they missed and they should be awarded the win.

The replay official should be fired. He's either grossly incompetent or was fully aware of the knee being down and purposefully fixed the game.

This. Has all the signs of being that way.

If I was in charge I would suspend the crew for the rest of the season and force each one make an individual case for reinstatement in the off season. The replay official would never work in that capacity again.

The integrity of the game is at stake. This has the appearance of blatant cheating by the officials.
