I don’t recall Gibson going through spring practice as the assumed starter only to turn around and say “pay me double or I walk and you’re screwed”.

I honestly don’t remember that. You may be right.

But it’s also not quite the same situation. TN went above and beyond for Nico, shoot we took on the NCAA in court for him. In return we get mercenary tactics and deliberately disrespecting his team.

There had to be a stand here. And quite frankly we do have other options outside of Nico.

Gibson also may be much less of a headache as well. You need leadership from the QB position and I think it’s apparent you just weren’t going to get it from Nico.

I listen to Basilio fairly often, but I think it’s a stretch to think that Tenn is sitting there waiting for a QB to hit the portal in a couple of days so they can pay them $4M. I could see them adding one for depth possibly, but I don’t think it would be one of the top QBs in the nation. And that’s what it would have to be to even think about $4M.

They wouldn't wait for them to hit the portal, they'd contact some, make a deal with one , then he's hit the portal. Lots of guys are entering portal with deals in place elsewhere.

I get that part, I just don’t think there’s a legit $4M QB out there in the upcoming portal period that we are going to sign for that amount. We’ll know soon enough, I guess.

They will probably sign a backup with potential upside who wants to be a starter to come in and compete for the job. Doubt they successfully pursue another teams #1 this late in the game.

Nah there’s a few QBs at lower tier P5 schools who had solid seasons last year that will reach out to us. I don’t know about 4 million though. We shall see

Sure, and that’s what I’m saying. It would be smart to add depth if we can. I just think there’s been a misunderstanding from Basilio’s show or listeners where some think we’re sitting on go with $4M to announce a new qb within the week.

I like Merk and G-Mac but expect a starter to come from the portal imo. May not be a name that wows people though

Seriously dude? Let's get a grip. I'm thinking college athletes from the late 1800's to 2023 did just fine getting free education and a chance at the pros. It is what it is, and NIL (and more) are here to stay, but let's not try and raise this crap to a level of human rights issues.
