According to Tony Basilio, we met with a QB

Seriously dude? Let's get a grip. I'm thinking college athletes from the late 1800's to 2023 did just fine getting free education and a chance at the pros. It is what it is, and NIL (and more) are here to stay, but let's not try and raise this crap to a level of human rights issues.
Meh, still think athletes should be paid especially since programs make billions off them. However this system currently is a cluster F. You can believe in fair implementation of pay. What we’re doing now though isn’t sustainable though.

Altmyer or Hoover would be great competition. I think we bring in a lesser name and roll with Merk.

if either of those guys came here, it’d be with the expectation of starting. Pretty much for any P4 QB. If it’s gonna be a depth piece it’ll come from a much smaller school but I think they’re swinging for a starter first.

Good lord can this be made post of the year? Perfectly said.

Dude walks into his manager's office at Boeing and says 'hey, I know I'm making $40 an hour, which is twice what most people in an assembly line make, but I happen to know that Boeing makes billions--I deserve part of the profit your risk takers get'. I guess that's called collective bargaining, if you have a collective---which college sports does not have (yet). The argument that people deserve more because the industry is lucrative is just silly. It happens in all industries from time immemorial all around the globe.

Somebody smarter than me will soon set me straight on this subject, I predict.. 😁 😁

Apparently you miss one important part of all this. THEY DON’T HAVE TO PLAY, we as fans are not exploiting anyone. At this point they are exploiting themselves, kinda like hookers
You are exactly correct. No one is forcing them to go to college and play football.

Which program made billions?

There is no available college QB worth 4million right now.
If we could get Klubnik for 4M and Wesco for 1.5ish it would be worth every penny. Avery Johnson is worth 4M too and his WR might even be worth a nice payday too. Especially considering Johnson gives us the ability to redshirt Faizon

That's laughable. You really are addicted to exploiting college athletes for your personal entertainment, are you?
I have no qualms asserting that the pre NIL system was exploitative. I still had opinions about who we should recruit and watched for my own personal entertainment.

We might set a minor precedent or become part of a footnote about athletes having more to lose than teams, but we aren't putting a stake over the heart of jack.

As long as people are consistent with their views, I've quit caring how they attempt to moralize NIL. The ones I find laughable extolled NIL & Spyre while we were at the forefront, but bemoan the escalation as we lose competitive advantage.

Didn't say that boss. Said we would pay 4 million for a qb if our coaches felt he was worth it. If arch manning left Texas for us we would pay 4 million. Not for Nico who threw 19 tds and 11 came against vandy, utep, utc.
I thought this all along. If Nico had played to his compensation level, I suspect we'd have no problem raising the bar.

Another name I’ve heard mentioned elsewhere is Sam Leavitt from Arizona State. He or Avery Johnson would be great replacements for Nico, I feel. I like Merk & Mac, but think they would benefit from 1 more year of sitting, as was the original plan. Won’t be disappointed if they are the starting options, though.

I'm not so sure you would even call Hendon a mercenary.

To hear Pruitt tell it-in the last days of Jeremys employment here Hooker just kind of showed up in Knoxville and they took him lol

That seems more like a gift from the Gods than a mercenary.

I'm sure if it was known how things were going to play out-quite a few programs would have cracked their checkbook open for HH.
I know. I was being ssrcastic

What I am reading here is that ya'll want to go hire a mercenary. Good luck with recruiting going forward if we do. If we do hire a mercenary, I hope Merk and McIntyre both leave and I would hope they go to another school and kick us in the nuts.

This is wrong what is going on here.
Putting aside the moral aspect of it, who can you bring in who doesn’t know the offense and will learn it in a very short period of time during fall practice well enough to beat out Merklinger? Nico bailing in the spring really put us behind the 8-ball in terms of getting a transfer QB.

I’d roll with what we have, unless they just want to bring in a depth piece at a good price. But even that would be difficult to find.
