While it's absurd to view this as a human rights issue, the fact that several players became millionaires within weeks of NIL starting tells us the free market for college players valued them WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than a free education and a chance at the pros.Seriously dude? Let's get a grip. I'm thinking college athletes from the late 1800's to 2023 did just fine getting free education and a chance at the pros. It is what it is, and NIL (and more) are here to stay, but let's not try and raise this crap to a level of human rights issues.
It's pretty simple. You cannot go into a season with two scholarship QB's. They will have to get someone from the portal. And that someone should be the best they can get, and the best player should play.... whoever it may be.What I am reading here is that ya'll want to go hire a mercenary. Good luck with recruiting going forward if we do. If we do hire a mercenary, I hope Merk and McIntyre both leave and I would hope they go to another school and kick us in the nuts.
This is wrong what is going on here.
I no longer consider remaining years of eligibility. I can't even get excited by Brandon. No guarantee he makes it to campus much less hangs around for year 2. It's year by year for me....although we've already seen kid bail on their teams before their seasons are complete. Might be better to just check the lineups game by game? Yeah, I'm jaded. Why would 2 QBs, one planning on being the backup and one planning on red shirting as of 3 days ago, transfer if we get a one year rental? I see this comment a lot and it doesn't make sense to me.
If we get a guy with 3 years of eligibility I get it, but I doubt we go that direction unless we are getting a DUDE.
Big picture. Many of us expected Nico to make strides and, potentially, have a breakout year this season. His numbers this past year were similar to Klubnik's two years ago. Klubnik was immensely better this past year than the year before. No, we probably can't expect Merk or McIntyre to be stellar this year; but there is certainly potential for a surprisingly good year from either of them (they were, after all, highly rated recruits) and we CAN expect numbers equivalent to what Nico gave this past season; which puts them in a position to make the explosive jump next year. I would certainly rather go that route than put our hopes in a veteran coming in and efficiently running this offense with only fall practice to get him up to speed. We should be in the business of winning football games. Not worried about hurting the feelings of our two backup QBs. If a good QB is available in the portal, pay the man!
Not a surprise. I am moving back to God's country after a 35 plus year absence and I am excited to be back. I guess the tears of joy blinded me to reality. That and I am ever the hopeful fan.Wait, you bought season tickets first the first time ever but may sell them due to the way college sports is now? Did you not know how it was when you got them? Is this a surprise to you?
You’re being serious, aren’t you? If you think we haven’t already been using back channels and other sources close to our team to already be talking to players on other teams, you may be a little naïve.Cool story Bro.
The fact is, that if UT or it's agents met with a QB, that would be tampering, and they are much smarter than that! The portal is not open yet.
Well, something is coming, it’s just a matter of what it looks like and if it sticks. Congress will have to do something really make a change. I try to stay out of the details as much as so can and just see who is in orange on game days and just watch sports. Not a surprise. I won't sell them. That was just a rant. But I doubt I will renew unless the NCAA actually grows a spine and fixes this crap.
The sports value market is clouded by fanaticism. You cannot argue that it isn't. Nico was never worth what he was paid, ESPECIALLY as an unproven commodity. After a season of mediocrity, it was born out as true that he was (as an investment) a hyped up bust. But sports are a passion, and passion makes for poor investments. It's why I laugh whenever I see a solicitation or anything from Spyre. I wouldn't give them YOUR money. I'd rather invest in something with ROI potential like a savings account. While it's absurd to view this as a human rights issue, the fact that several players became millionaires within weeks of NIL starting tells us the free market for college players valued them WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than a free education and a chance at the pros.
The market doesn't have a notion of human rights but it does decide value. What athletes were getting was only valid in the illegally controlled market. I'm not a bleeding heart but the market spoke and is speaking about the value of athletes WITHOUT thinking about human rights.
I have never booed an 18 year old in my life. That is changing. I know they don't care, but now it is time for them to produce. They are professionals. The only jersey I can remotely think of being interested in anymore is Zakai's. Other than that, I'd have to go back a few years.Well, something is coming, it’s just a matter of what it looks like and if it sticks. Congress will have to do something really make a change. No argument but the sentiment that players "were fine with" not being paid AND not being able to transfer is obviously wrong. The sports value market is clouded by fanaticism. And anyone that says human rights and college athletes in the same breath have no idea about the abuses to humans that go on around the world. What Nico was paid in one year to play a ****ing game would probably feed tens of thousands for a year.
I know where you are coming from. You are proud when the NBA all stars beats Borneo 150-12 in the Olympics.Yeah it is a good thing, NIL isn’t going anywhere bud and if you wanna win nowadays you need the money to put up for these high octane players. That’s just how things are going to be so either adapt or get left.
It’s not a free market as the term is used in economics. He’s generally several people with lots of money trying to buy a championship. It has nothing to do with the players value to a university. It has to do with people wanting a championship for their s hook. While it's absurd to view this as a human rights issue, the fact that several players became millionaires within weeks of NIL starting tells us the free market for college players valued them WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than a free education and a chance at the pros.

No offense, but rotating guys would likely be a disaster. The saying "If you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none" is true more often than not.Wouldn't it be interesting if Heupel actually rotates the young guys until one of them takes the reigns? I know the Milton and hooker injuries happened, but it would be a massage change in his "this is my guy from day 1" approach.
There weren’t conference commissioners, coaches, and tv execs all making millions off the sport in 1890, or in 1950 for that matter. The commodification of college athletics is the root disease, NIL shenanigans are just the rotten fruit.Seriously dude? Let's get a grip.
