Acoustic Guitarists: what kind of guitar(s) do you play?

I am trying to learn about acoustics. I have a cheap o, that is OK for what I do with it. I picked up a $5k Martin at GC a couple years ago, and that thing had the voice of an angel.

What model was it, I do not know. And after further research, I seen one on line, I beleive it was a 1932 Martin made of Brazilian rosewood. The shop in NC was asking $32k.
It's purtee!
A buddy of mind's father has ran a recording studio for decades. Needless to say he has played or owned dang near any guitar you could imagine. Now he won't touch anything but Taylors. He says they are far superior to anything else.

I will have to mess with a Taylor next time I'm in GC or Ciderville.

I've played Martins, Gibsons, and Taks, but I really love the feel of Taylors the most. Martins have a great, full tone, though.

Unless things have changed, Ciderville doesn't carry Taylor or Gibson.

I swear I've seen them in there, Taylor that is. But, it has been a while. GC has them for sure.

What about u?

Firstly, kiddiedoc got this thread started off right! Kudos to you, sir.

To AC's question, I started the thread on mobile and didn't want to type a ton. So, here's my acoustic history:

In 1999 I traded a bass for a '98 Taylor 612CE with the Fishman system. I got the guitar for my wife (then girlfriend) who was a singer/songwriter in Nashville at the time. She played it on some sessions, then it went into the case for the better part of a decade and a half once we left the music industry.

A few years ago, I began playing acoustic on the 612. I've since written a number of songs on it - a few for my wife, one for my oldest daughter, among others. It plays PHENOMENALLY... the action is very low, which suits my style well.

Since then, I've gone down the road of curiosity and picked up a used Martin OMJM (about a year ago) which sounds great and I love the 1 11/16 nut. Then, last month bought a 1993 Santa Cruz OM. The thing has seen some abuse, but what a guitar! The tone is mesmerizing, and the neck is the most comfortable depth.

I'll be selling the OMJM, I believe. I'll play the SC a bit longer before deciding its fate. I may end up custom ordering one like this one but with the OMJM nut width.

The Taylor will stay here. I actually prefer the tone of the other two guitars for most applications. The 612 doesn't have much girth, is very shimmery, which makes for nice fingerpicking, but I like the rosewood OM vibe more. But as kiddiedoc perfectly articulated, this Taylor has seen the best and worst of times.

The only one I've got pictures of is the Martin.

Yairi DY62c was the last acoustic I owned. If I buy another acoustic it will most likely be a Takamine or maybe a Cordoba classical of some kind. Nothing outrageously expensive though.

Anyone ever played/owned a nylon string acoustic?

I have one. It's a great way to develop your finger picking because the fretboard is pretty wide. Also, strumming them can get buzzy.

You can get strings with ends so you don't have to tie them at the bridge.

It's a nice change from steel string and will improve your playing.

Willie Nelson agrees

Stretching strings instead of bending them can be really fun too.

Any suggestions on a practical starter? I played for about 3 months and gave up. Anybody close by can list if they have something for sale/trade.

I would look into Yamaha. They have some good sounding starter guitars at good prices.
