By society or her church. I'm very anti-LGBT, but not to the point where I believe it's right or obligation to attack them without provocation. That said, the politics and social climate of many churches, especially strict ones, literally produces such sick people as this individual. There's constant in your face scolding, judging, criticizing, shunning, whispers, physical displays of rejection, even disgust. Just an overall sense of you don't belong here. I think it's less the WHAT, than it is the HOW all this happens. People are like sticks, you bend them enough, they will snap.

Sounds to me like The Star has met with lawyers and determined the risk and assessed that any lawsuits would be argued with high probability of success.

Sounds like Vanderbilt has lobbied pretty extensively for this info to be suppressed as well. Was Vanderbilt heavily involved in her treatment or therapy?
