We have zero baseball fan support Arkansas actually makes big money on baseball & their stadium is unbelievable. They have way more money than we do too. Probably more than anyone on the country when they really need it.
There are 1000s of millionaires 30 minutes from their campus & all Hog fans. Couple billionaires too

I disagree with this assessment in its entirety. Any state in the south is a baseball state. It’s huge everywhere.

Just look at this series if you want to talk fan support. We are COVID limited in capacity and tickets were going for damn near $300. I guarantee you it would be a sell out and packed to the gills if we were allowed.

Tennessee fans will flock to LNS in droves if this team keeps playing like this under Vitello.

As far as money is concerned, I once again disagree vehemently. We can spend just as much money as Arkansas. Money is money. There isn’t baseball money and football money. There is just money. No one would say “Arkansas has way more money to support its coaches” if we are comparing football programs.

There is not a single thing that Arkansas has that Tennessee does not also have. The only question is whether we will commit ourselves to giving those resources to Vitello. The Arkansas job isn’t coming open any time soon. By the time it comes open, if we commit to Vitello, we’ll have a gorgeously renovated LNS and he’ll have himself a fat contract and a program flush with talent.

You are dead wrong about the zero baseball fan support... Did you go to any games back when we were winning under Delmonico from 1994-2005? It wouldn't seem so.

I can only speak for the 2005 season as it was my first on campus and the crowds were pathetic given the season we were having. I went to Hoover from start to finish that year as well and we were by far the most underrepresented crowd and it wasn’t even close; couple hundred fans tops. The West schools opened my eyes to what big time baseball crowds look like. I was in an awe of jealousy for 5 days. The championship between OM and MSU was standing room only.

My experiences were in the Helton heyday from '93-'95 and that wasn't the case at all. Although, I also went to some games in 2001 when they were really good... and those crowds were nothing like before, but still not bad. I don't think I went to any games in '05 when they had Hochevar.

We aren't getting a good look right now, at what the environment will be like with a great team. I think they will get the support they deserve. Just keep winning.

You can’t expect fan support to be the same as Arky or MSU right now because we haven’t been relevant in baseball in so so so long. An entire generation of young kids probably grew up ignoring UT baseball because we were so bad.

If we keep winning, the fans will come. No doubt about it. You just have to restore what we once had. It will happen quicker than you think.

I’m not talking about now. 2005 was a team that finished 2nd in the SEC and had 5 big leaguers and we were 4 yrs removed from Omaha and in route to another one.

Ironically, just a few years ago, the CEO of Tyson was a UT grad and gave several million dollars to UT. While I agree there is some big money in that area, I think you would be surprised at the kind of money UT can get.

I think it’s likely we’re going to have to fend off Texas A&M after this season. Childress is in the last year of his contract and A&M is 3-9 so far in conference. He’s almost assuredly not coming back.

I have friends at TAMU who would love to have Vitello in College Station. Those in charge at Tennessee need to act accordingly.

If I was CTV and assuming he wants to stay and build something special here, I'd take the pay raise for himself and the staff, increased baseball budget and the "promises" of the stadium renovations and demand a very low buyout clause, and keep the AD hostage with the threat of leaving.....

The conference season will not reach the halfway point until this weekend. If the Vols struggle in 2nd half of the season, the same folks screaming to "pay the man" will be the same ones saying he ought to be fired.

Yea but the "fire the coach" posts are usually more entertaining.

There may be zero correlation but one has to look at AM in every sport over their entire history and ask why has this school not won more in anything than what they have? The money is there, the facilities are there, the recruiting base is there; every resource you could ever ask for is at your disposal. However, they just can’t seem to get over the hump in any sport. Baseball is just like football in terms how great the SECW is; on most years MSU, OM and LSU are all top 10 teams.

Texas A&M has shown that they are not afraid to pay top dollar as evidenced by the Fisher and Williams contracts.

They could potentially make their next baseball coach the highest paid coach in the SEC.

I'm not nervous about losing Vitello. I think Danny White is a smart man. He'll do what is necessary to keep him. I also think Vitello genuinely likes it here and wants to build something special if we are willing to give him the resources to do it.
