Can someone explain the adjustments that Alabama made in the second half that we did not respond to. I am not knowledgeable enough on tactics and strategy to be able to see what was done differently that **** us out in the second half. Thank you in advance and go Vols.

Check 99.1 Eric Ainge in the morning. or Tuesdays/Thursdays you have "The Swain Event" aswell. Both guys will cover what Bama did in the 2nd half.

I think Michigan stole our playbook and sent it to Bama by halftime
1st down = Run
2nd down= Run
3rd down=pass

after hearing Herring, I'm pretty sure our players just checked out after thinking they were going to win. It feels more like we lost the game rather than Alabama beating us

I just cant but that a team with a small 2 score lead against their biggest rival, would come out of the half thinking the game is over.

Bama spied Milton a lot less, for one thing. After leaving a spy (or even 2!) a lot of the first half, Bama switched to more of a gap scheme against the run in the second half. They also threw more on first down against more run-oriented personnel.

They started double covering squirrel and putting their best cover corner on him. Their DTs started crashing the gaps, which resulted in them being in the backfield before our O even got going. The also had OLBs crashing down on the Rbs to take the pitch man. So even when it wasn’t an option play they were almost tackling the RB before he got downhill.

On O, They also started running more outside zone plays to get their backs to the edge, which opened up the outside running game and got their backs 1 on 1 with corners and safeties. This is.something I wish we had tried, because they were almost giving us the edge on the backside with the way they were rotating their LBs to the strong side.

I think Heup misses Golesh in the booth aka the eye in the sky.

I would assume the coaches had a stern speech for them that went something like this.

" You stoopid f..ks, They arent calling holding on us, Hell they aint calling anything on us. If the Vols complete one more pass or pressure Jalen one more time, every one of you sonsabitches that dont have a handfull of jersey are gonna run until you puke Sunday morning"

Im just paraphrasing here..🤓

Where you live in bama? I live here to In this hell hole lol (actually it’s not bad at all lol).

I think if we would have converted a couple fourth downs and redzones to TDs we may have won. I just want to rebound hard against Kensucky at Kroger Online Grocery My Produce Is Bad Field.

Hoover. About 10 minutes from the Met (where the SEC baseball tournament is played)

And I agree, momentum is a fickle thing

Whatever these adjustments are apparently everyone is doing it....Bama, UF and A&M combined we have 1 offensive TD in the second half

Without oversimplifying it, Heup’s run scheme is fairly easy to defend once you realize how to read the keys. Dont get sucked up into the flow. You’re going to run right into the RB if you can resist pursuing towards the flow of the play. It’s the opposite of what you’re taught as a young LBer. It’s instinct to flow towards the play. One thing that bama and aTm did was have their DL go right or left of the lineman, into the gap and break down, then attack. It’s so simple yet very effective because the OL whiffs on their block alot because there is hardly any contact with the DL. So the OL get off their base and lose momentum and when they miss their blocks they allow the DL to make the play in the backfield. It also results in a lot of holding calls because the OL feels like they missed so they grab and try to block with their arms.

Of course not all plays are the same, and they disguise who is pulling fairly well, so that’s why it works most of the time. But Bama and aTm have a good defensive coaches that are good at making adjustments rather than watching a team cram it down their throats.

It also hurts that the Vols have one of the worst redzone offenses in FBS. 59th in total redzone but that counts both fgs and tds. I remember the vols being 10/22 or something like that in redzone tds during the broadcast. 10 tds in 6 games is awful.

Just for reference, in 2022 the vols had 53tds and 10 fgs out of 67 attempts in the redzone in 13 games.

I have been saying this since the FL loss. Halsley is still young, but the play calling even lacked creativity in the Orange Bowl.
THIS is spot on but would add that the play calling lacks continuity. We call a good first half and forget how we go there in the second half. I continue to preach that our BEST offensive weapon is moving the chains w short passes (that usually gain 3-5 yards) along with runs by our amazing backs. Incompletions are our Kryptonite, yet our play caller/s INSIST far too often to attempt routes that have a high % of incompletions.

Call plays to our strengths, not weaknesses. Just drives me bat*hit crazy.
