AFC Playoff Game Thread: Baltimore at Denver (CBS, Sat 4:30PM EST)

Fair enough, it just seems like Manning throws a pick-6 with a much higher frequency than other elite QB's. The one in the Super Bowl you referenced was not only picked, but went back for a score as well.

Yeah, Porter sat on the route...when you play in 20 playoff games, it happens.

FYI, he's only thrown a pick with the game on the line in the playoffs one time. Tom Brady has done it 3 times.

Part of that could have to do with the fact that several times Manning has thrown a back breaking pick 6 earlier in the game, so he never even had the ball in his hands with the game on the line. IIRC, didn't he even throw one in the AFCCG against the Pats the year Indy came from way behind to win and then go on to win the Super Bowl?

I'm not really trying to start anything, it's just something I was thinking about after the one today that seemed kind of strange to me.

Sounds like you're just making stuff up. Can you tell me which game(s) you are talking about? If anything, you're talking about ancient history (2004?).

I understand what you're saying; I think Manning has definitely played worse in the playoffs than in the regular season in his career.

I don't know...it's a team sport, and like somebody said, he's never had a team like this...and this team is shooting itself in the foot too. They're struggling to protect Manning. They can't run, and they keep committing penalties.

I'm speaking specifically about the '96 and '97 UF games and at least one of the early-00's games against the Pats in Foxboro. The big-game pick 6 is something that had kind of plagued him as long as I've watched him play. Again, not trying to say he sucks, just that he seems to get hit with them moreso than most other elite QB's. Some of them like today have just been plain bad luck. Others like the one in the SB have been 100% on Manning.

Comes with the price of having clueless fans attribute every success and thus failure to Manning.

Peyton & Eli both seem to have more pick sixes than anybody. I kinda feel like Denver's d will have to force a turnover to win

That pick 6 was a product of their offensive scheme. It was a read based on the blitz package. Manning makes that throw every time without regret. Porter took a gamble and it worked out. If it had been a fly, it would have been a game-tying TD. If Manning doesn't throw that ball, he gets sacked and the drive is over.

I guess I was confused. I though I was watching a football game. Apparently I'm actually watching vaginaball. What a stupid penalty. So now receivers should be allowed to run across the middle when no fear of being hit?
