To me it was 5-8 - the entire defense. Team speed seemed to be vastly improved, but more than that, there seemed to be a relentless effort and attitude that I haven't seen for a long time on that side of the ball.

Defense looked good, how much of that was in part to Utah State being completely inept is the question.

I thought A.J. clearly played like a 1st team All-American.

Most LB will look that way if they're allowed to run free on nearly every play. Utah State couldn't handle 3 man fronts, getting to the second level was out of the question.

He did appear faster though.

Well, I'm going with the D-line. Compared with what we've seen ovr the last few years, and apart from a gash or two by their little scatback, USU's running game was shut down. I hope for pretty much the same this week.

Completely agree. Its going to be hard to gauge Utah State for a few weeks (next on the schedule is Idaho State, Wake Forrest) until they play a common opponent in Arkansas State in week 4.

Linebackers and/or D-Line.

We'll see how this goes as the season progresses. I'll be interested to see if they can keep up the intensity, speed, and defensive push they showed against USU when we get into harder games and everyone's a little banged up.

This was really tough in a good way. So much noticeable improvement at almost every position. The only exception would be the OL.

Played good all around, wish we could've ran for about 245 yds. Then I might be as optimistic as some of Volnation . We are a better team than last year and I'm hoping for a bowl game and win. I know we've got one of the best staffs in the country ,one more top 5 class and the fan support like last weekend and we're going to be hard to deal with. These coaches know what they want in recruits and are hitting some home runs ( JRM, Bates, TKJR , Barnett ,etc.etc.)...:matrix: keep them shades close

He threw a bunch of 5 yard passes against what could be the worst secondary in the country.

So what? He did a great job of managing the game and distributing the ball to a lot of different receivers. And he did hit some nice medium throws throughout the game. He did a great job of staying within his limitations and taking what the defense gave, and not trying to throw where he shouldn't. A big difference from last season. Let's at least give him some credit for his growth and maturity, both physcially and mentally, from last season.

Nice job hating the team's starting QB by engaging in BS assessments. You have no earthly idea how good or bad USU's secondary is and you certainly don't know if they're the "worst secondary in the country".

The following were completions by Worley that had very little to no yards after catch....each were a little longer than 5 yds:

27yds to Croom
19yds to North
15yds to Malone
11yds to Malone
12yds to Wolf
12yds to Downs

The DL looked very good, albeit against low hanging fruit, but the LBs were fantastic. AJ was and is a stud, and he looks more explosive this year. JRM was flying around making and assisting on tackles. Weatherd showed he can really makes things tough when you want to throw. Maggit will only improve and Bates will add another high talent guy as he developes and learns.

I actually chose the secondary though because they tackled when called upon, which is the difference between a good and a great defense. They also were everywhere in coverage. Not a lot of open guys running around. Looked very much improved.
