No doubt in my mind they are BETTER than they were last year at every position group except for RB and DL.

- Cam Robinson looks in much better shape this year. More lean and athletic. The change in his physique just stood out to me.
- The receivers look better especially Ardarius Stewart.
- Hurts is an upgrade over anyone Alabama has had at QB since McCarron.
- I thought the defense was the best in the country before the game. They looked even better than I imagined. Rueben Foster is in much better shape this year. D-line still dominant. And the secondary might be the best since Saban got to Alabama.

With that said, I still think we can beat them. Physically we are as good as them or better at every position group except the offensive line. We get them at home which will make a huge difference and we have Shoop and they have a freshmen QB. Hurts will have to win the game for them thru the air since I don't think Alabama will be able to run on us.

We better hope someone else also beats Bama and keeps them out of the SEC championship game because it'll be almost impossible to beat Alabama twice.

The only thing I can say we are on par with them is the secondary. And the only things better are Rbs. Dline I don't know. Our DTs didn't look great.

I do think people are getting ahead of themselves with Hurts. It was one game. Let's see how he looks going forward.

Let's all jump to a bunch of conclusions on both teams after one game.... Sky is falling, sky is falling.

Those conclusions might prove to be true, but let's see a more considerable sample size first. Over the course of a season, every team plays great games, but they also play subpar games. We don't know where both teams' first games fit yet. But, I will predict this. Alabama will have at least one subpar game where they have to scrap to win. That young QB will have games where he struggles throwing the ball. They will not blow everybody out.

Rivalry games are tough to predict. Will have to wait and see how things are going when it's October.

USC literally quit in the 2nd half. Alabama is a great team but essentially one half of the first game isn't a good sample size.

the only thing i could tell was USCw sucks.

As well coached as Bama is, usc was as poorly coached. They blew two coverages that left Bama playing simple throw and catch. After the int for a TD, usc quit.

Defensively Bama is that and more but let's pump the brakes some on their offense. They were 3rd and long on both of those TD passes. A good defense won't give those up.

Actually they looked PHENOMENAL. Watch the tape again. O'Brien, Vickers, and Kahlil have improved a lot. Kahlil looks like the 5 star we thought he was. Plus O'Brien and Vickers look like legit NFL prospects. I love our DT rotation once Shy and Alexis are back to speed. We'll be among the best in the country.

We are better than Bama at: QB, RB, and LB. They are better than us at WR and OL. We are even at DL and DB.

We're very close at nearly every position group only big gaps are in our favor at QB and RB while they have a big gap on the OL.

Yep...USC's board was livid...even called Cali boys soft...I've never seen them admit that before.

From all reports Hurts has dominated fall practice over the upperclassmen. That may say as much about their skill set as his but the AL media has raved about his play. Bama has never started a season with a FR QB and I think that's the only thing that kept him from taking the 1st snap this weekend.

The title of the thread is after watching Alabama. If you actually watched it, Alabama played 3 QBs and they outperformed Dobbs colletively. Dobbs had a 114 QB rating and their QBs combined had a 215 QB rating and threw for more yards, ypc, TDs and a higher percentage. Their RBs also outperformed ours and it wasn't even close. They averaged 5.4 per carry and we averaged 3 yards per carry. They rushed 45 times for 242 yards and we rushed 43 times for 127 yards. They were playing USC and we were playing Appy State. Unfortunately they appear to be better than us at every position "After watching the Alabama game". The stats aren't even close. If you actually watched both games there is no rational way to come to a conclusion that we are better than them at any position. The NFL draft in the next few years will prove this also. Sorry, I hate Alabama more than any other team but stats don't lie.

How dare you bring statistics and facts to this thread. You ought to be ashamed of yourself!

My fellow Vols don't get it. Coaching is what is killing us as I sit here and watch FSU and OM getting after it. If been ridiculed on her after the app state loss. After VT shows UT some points this Saturday, maybe all these kook aid drinkers will realize UT has got to have a real OC.

No, USC just sucks!

we won't beat bama. our offense is inept. and so are the offensive coaches.

Same offense as last year with the same coaches. The only reason we lost last year was because a true FR got beaten by an all american. But i do agree that its highly unlikely we beat them.

So we are better than them at every position EXCEPT arguably the most important group on the field. What do you think hampers this offense the most? Unless the Vols OL improves significantly, the Bama D will absolutely destroy us.

So you are now waffling on your preseason predictions? Well I figured reality would set in eventually.

USC didn't quit. They gassed. They literally have zero depth from the scholarship reductions. We were in the same situation for different reasons a few years ago. I remember playing toe to toe with Oregon the first half and getting blown out in the second half. Same thing here.

too many have fooled themselves with the narrative that the talent level has equalized with Bama. It simply hasn't.

The key to winning will be maximizing home field and capitalizing on any and all mistakes they make. No room for error.

Will be interesting to watch the development of Hurts. The way USC was playing defense it really was no challenge for Hurts. He didn't have to make any close or critical passes. Also, will the coaches throttle his tendancy to run.

Overall it looks like the same old Alabama team except for questions at QB and the RBs are not quite as good as last year. Certainly will be the team to beat in the SEC for the championship. Will likely be pitted against Ohio State and/or Michigan in the NC tournament.

This is the 3rd season they've been allowed to have 85 guys. I don't think sanctions were an issue.
