Yep, but since I've been at UT, the basketball team has been miles ahead of the football team. When I'm old, the first thing I will associate UT athletics with will be basketball.

Thank god for Bruce Pearl. Otherwise, there would have been no success while you were at UT.

Since I'm still at UT working on my master's, I'm even more thankful for Martin for continuing the success WITHOUT driving our program into the ground!

Losing to MTSU in the NIT is not continuing the success. It is not even close to continuing the success.

BTW, don't bother saying anything back. I'm not going to respond, and you will inevitably be destroyed by the other posters.

Translation: I do not have a good response because it is hard to defend losing to MTSU in the NIT after Bruce went to six straight NCAA tourneys. Hopefully some of the other posters will have a better response.

You can blame pearl as much if not more than Martin for Tennessee not making the NCAA tournament this year.

You do realize of pearl would've stayed we also wouldn't be in the NCAA tournament right?

1. Bruce could not have been back. The NCAA made sure of that.
2. Bruce would have definitely made the tourney. Considering Jarnell Stokes still would have came here and that either Scotty/Tobias or both would have came back we would have definitely made the tourney. Even if they had not came back I feel we would have still made the tourney.

1. Yes he could have, it was UT decision not NCAA.

2. Stokes wouldn't have come here with the black cloud on the program. Also, there wouldn't have be a scholarship for him if Scotty & Tobias had returned.

3. Regardless of who stayed, no he wouldn't have made the tourney. If he'd have stayed there would have been a postseason ban, nice try though.

1. No he could not have came back. He got a two year show clause. That is why he is not coaching right now. Where have you been man?
2. Stokes has already said he was coming here until Bruce was fired. He wasn't even gonna answer Cuonzo's phone calls until he accidently picked up the phone one day. Yes, there would have been scholarships available. The only reason there is not scholarships available now is because Cuonzo signed four thousand 2 stars.
3. No, we wouldn't have got a postseason ban or we would've had the ban this past year. More than likely Bruce Pearl have got the show clause and we would have had to fire him anyway.

I would say nice try but everything you said was absolutely wrong. It was a horrible try.

1. A showcause doesn't ban you from coaching, once again that was UT decision not NCAA.
2. Yes stokes said UT was his leader but that was also before we would have been hammered. To say Stokes would have definitely come here if the program got hammered is asinine.
2a. Oh really what scholarship would stokes have? If pearl was here and Tobias and Scotty stayed, that means Ware probably stayed as well. Also, you think Stokes would be thrilled about coming and and playing behind Tobias?
3. You clearly don't understand self imposing penalties and NCAA penalties. We self imposed our own, and then on top of that fired Pearl, the NCAA said ok enough done. If we had kept pearl they would hav came down and handed UT more penalties. They most likely would have received post season bans, as well as loss of scholarships(another reason stokes wouldn't be here if those guys stayed). However, the NCAA said you as a program did enough with you penalties and firing him that we'll let those be it. It's pretty widely known if we'd have kept pearl we would have been slammed.

Here's a simple solution you may understand....if pearl didn't lie and write his own death warrant then none of this would be being argued. Unfortunately he did and he screwed the university he claimed to love, so now CCM was left to pick up the pieces. He did a pretty damn good job I'd say.

And one side note..do you really think pearl could have coached this roster to a #2 finish in the sec?

Kentucky pulls in 5 star recruits. We better start pulling in 4 and 5 star guys or we will always be second fiddle to UK. This is Tennessee we can do better. Come on man!!

i don't buy into the whole star crap. it's all about coaching

1. Are you trying to say that Tennessee really had a say so when someone is getting a show cause ban? Please explain to me how Tennessee could have kept Pearl. I would love to hear this.
2. I already explained #2. You apparently have a problem with reading comprehension.
3. Everything you said in #3 is speculation. You don't know what the NCAA would have done any more than I do. Besides, your argument for #3 is my argument why Tennessee had to fire Bruce.
If you are gonna insult people atleast know what you are talking about.

1. Yes Tennessee COULD have kept his as the HC. The NCAA as I've repeatedly said then woul have come down harder on Tennessee, but he wasn't fired by the NCAA. A showcause doesn't mean the NCAA is banning you from coaching, it just makes it difficult for the school to keep you on. The end decision is the schools an not the NCAAs.

2. You didn't explain anything except that we were the leader. Please explain what scholarship we'd have offered jarnell? If Harris, Hopson, ware all stay and he signs a juco like he would have had he still been here, please tell me what scholarship jarnell would have had waiting on him? PLUS, as I said we would have received a loss of scholarships had he stayed, so as I said please tell me what scholarship jarnell would have gotten.

3. It's not speculation it's what was said and reported. Try keeping a coach that the NCAA has put a showcause on and see what penalties they hand you. The reason UT got off lightly was because they fired him. If they'd have kept him they'd have been hammered, ask anyone with knowledge of the situation and they'll tell you the same.

I don't think Scotty and Tobias left just because Pearl did. The draft was extremely weak and a lot of players stayed so it was honestly the best time to sneak in for Scotty and a huge raise for Tobias. Pretty much, I beleive it was all about business for those two because both made it clear that the league was what they wanted. If Scotty stayed, he'd be a 4th year guy in a pretty loaded draft (likely undrafted). If Tobias stayed, he would have went but this year is pretty stocked at big men.

Also, how can you be so sure we would have made the tournament? If you look at the talent pool, Bruce wasn't going to get much better in here as far as stars are concerned. Really, the only two players that did anything that Bruce wouldn't have had in orange in white is Yemi (who wasn't that big of a factor when you look at it but was pretty decent off the bench) and Richardson (who we could probably agree was our best on ball defender this season). I don't get this argument and especially considering how Michigan dusted us last season. I'd rather not even go to the tournament then get embarrased by a big 10 team (not coached by Matta or Izzo)
