When I watched the last scrimmage video, Rick completed more but he dumped off to a back almost all the time. I just think that Ainge gives that deep threat we need to keep the safeties and the rest of the defense honest and succeed with the running game.

I like Ainge better, because he cannot create some time in the pocket and throw on the run. He also is taller and I think that gives him a little better vision.

Clausen is really slow and easier to sack. Ainge is no speedster but he is a lot more mobile then Clausen.

I'm glad he named Ainge the starter instead of the 2 qb system. :dance:

Obviously this summer NEITHER has outperformed the other... a starter needed to be named, Rick will still get playing time next weekend...

everyone says that using 2 QBs of the same style doesn't help... I disagree, if one guy is having a bad day, the other can come in and save the day. As long as the QBs have the right attitude it can actually take pressure OFF of them. Instead of having to think "The entire team is counting on me to carry the team" it can be "if things don't go well, the other guy can always come in and give me a break."

I think both will get to play plenty this year, CRS proved last year that he can run the 2-QB system like a master.

I usually don't comment on QB topics, but from the way both were playing in practice, I don't think Fulmer could make a bad decision.

Ainge has a strong arm and against a fast defense that is a necessity. Overall, I think Clausen's lack of arm strength cost him the starting position.

Ainge has been learning from watching Rick run his progressions... Rick will get his chances, I know he will... we named Schaeffer the starter last year, and look where he landed, Ainge played better in the games. This will all work out, and our coaches know what they are doing!

Yep, Fulmer and company know what they are doing. You just have to trust that.

You are right, Ainge was JUST TERRIBLE last year while setting school freshman records and making freshman all america, so who would want to start a kid who ONLY threw for 17 TDs while splitting time and only lost to an undefeated Auburn team that featured 4 first round draft picks. OK I am done with the sarcasm, and while I think RC is a good reliable QB he can not make the plays that Ainge can, and even with the talent we field this year we will need some big time clutch throws to win some of these road games with the schedule we have.

And you call yourself vol_fever. Right now you are being a vol_downer. Larry Slade did the best he could with a young secondary last year. He obviously isn't doing that bad of job considering all the wins that we rack up. However, I'm sure if you were the coach, they would be better right? :shades:

Yeah 12th in pass d in the sec and 80th in the country thats real respectful i'm not a TENN homer. I just see things and comment on them.Every year we give up a lot of passing yards on d against anybody with a fairly good qb check the stats. Now back to the qb race i just think that Clausen is out performing Ainge and should get the job.

How long have you been on the coaching staff? I'm just curious as to what you saw on the tapes. Oh, you're just going by what you read in the paper. I'm sorry, I thought you knew what you were talking about. :lol:

Geeez, tough crowd. Vol_fever thinks Clausen out played Ainge in practice and that Slade is not the best coach on the staff. I agree on both counts.

Well :nener: to you too then. No Slades not the best but he must be okay if Fulmer wants to keep him around.

As for Rick, I'm an Ainge fan so I'm pretty happy about it. Both will play though, no biggie.

I was more concerned with the way he was saying it, which if you ask some people here about me, the way I say things gets people to think bad of me, so I can certainly understand why myself and others are quick to jump.

All i want to know is what do you have to do to earn the starting QB postion. Did Clausen not do enough to get it, if not then tell me what he needs to do.
